#23865, "Poll question: Talon tsi or probe gt"

Hey. Well sence my neon is getting very old, and the tranny is starting to slip, ive thought about getting a new car. So far im interested in an eagle talon tsi(first gen), and a ford probe gt(second gen). I know a little bit about talons, but not much about probes.
Basically, i like the looks of the talon a bit more, and i like the fact that im staying with chrysler. The problem is they are all pretty expencive for a good shape one, even with high km. They have a bit more hp. They also curb weight of about 300 pounds less than the probe. The Probe has a v6, but still doesnt put out as much hp, around 165. They are quite a bit less though. So in your opinion, without Fanboy comments, should i save up a bit more, and get the higher proformance talon, or should i go cheaper and go with the probe gt. I am looking for acceleration and handeling. So would i notise much of a difference in proformance with the talon over the probe? Thanks alot.

I have heard from numerous people regarding 2g probes that they are extremely slow and have many engine problems. I think a stock 2g eclipse/talon non-turbo can beat a 2g probe v6 in a 1/4 mile also. I am not a fan of Ford cars because in my experience anything that can go wrong with them, will go wrong with them.

alright, talon it is. I was unaware that the probe was not turbo'd. Althought now i think i might save up a bit more and buy a second gen talon or eclipse.

You just asked an Eclipse/Talon club if you should get a Probe. What did you expect your answer to be? Go ask the same thing on a Ford forum, see the response there.

LOL. Listen to this guy. That's what everyone that I have talked to about Fords has told me also. Along with the acronym FORD = Found On Road Dead.

I believe you're correct, 1st gen probe's had the turbo, 2nd gen gt's were 6's. 1st gen t/e/l's are a very good choice. 2nd gen t/e's have two different engines as you may be aware of. The turbo models have had crankwalk issues since their release. The non-turbo 420a came with an assy stock composite head gasket that could be original if you find a car with low mileage. You definently came to the right place if you are interested in learning more about the cars.

I'll agree on the various issues with the 2.5l v6. 140hp motor and they eat head gaskets like candy. My buddy loved his probe and changed the head gaskets about 4 times in 2 years before he said screw it and ditched the car. It always had some kind of electrical issue as well.

Not bad. It's reasonably priced and that is about what they go for in fair shape according to kbb.com. 15 psi sounds like he is still running the stock turbo especially with his mod list. Take it for a test drive and make a hard left hit the clutch. Then make a hard right and hit the clutch. If the clutch goes dead or the friction point drops to the floor, it may have the dreaded CW.

Just check all the fluids and look at the pumpkin on the rear to make sure that it isn't leaking. That is all I can think of.
