#19677, "My car is gone..."
Jan-04-07 07:18 PM by totaleclipse_05

Hey guys...

Just got back from getting a ride home. A couple friends and I were out of town at a "gentlemen's club" and on the way back, about 20 min from home, a deer ran in front of my car. It was all in slow motion. I saw the deer right as I was hitting it and saw it fly basically over my car and land in the ditch in the other side of the road. Hood is FUBAR, bumper basically exploded into 10 pieces, intercooler is probably messed up, radiator is messed up, front radiator support is bent inwards, and headlight is gone. Pictures I'm sure will be posted sometime soon, don't care about uploading, resizing, etc tonight. I'm sure it will be about 1-2 grand to fix and will probably get totalled it out because the car is only worth about 3000-3400. Only had liability on it also so won't get anything for it. So to sum it all up, this night sucks. All the work, sweat, blood, etc in the car is now a memory instead of a current affair. Well that is my story.

/vent

Deer was still alive after being hit. Cop came and shot it though to put it out of it's misery. It was messed up pretty bad.

Sucks man. Hood, bumper and light are cheap easy fix. Even the radiator support isn't bad. As long as the 1/4 panels are good, won't even need a bodyshop other than paint... Good luck to you.

Well I won't be able to pull the radiator support without a pulling machine. Pushed in there probably 3-4 inches. Don't know if the frame is messed up either. I'm guessing it's not though.

Pull up close to a pole, right... get some rope, throw her in reverse and...
edit: shit, you can't drive it. Ok emoji So you get a friend with a big truck. Then you take the rope, and...

And, like I said over on Tuners, where you posted this as well, emoji be if you don't have full coverage insurance, your insurance won't do anything about this, BUT if they see the car and estimate it to be totalled out, they may report it to the government as a car needing a salvage or exceeds mechanical limits title. That would leave you royally screwed, should you fix it and want to insure or sell it.

Be careful how you proceed.

Just post pictures with the hood open looking down at the radiator and fenders, and we'll let you know how much it will be to fix. Shouldn't be too bad, the 2gnt takes front impacts like a champ. It's the side ones that kill them.

That'll happen if he files a claim and the insurance company does in fact pay him off. That's how it is here in TX, anyway.

If he doesn't file a claim, no biggie. If he does, you can typically buy the vehicle back from them, thus it seems like they're paying you to keep your car and fix it yourself (They offer $4000, but costs you $1500 to buy it back, so they give you $2500 and you keep the car with a 'salvaged' title).

I have one pic uploaded taken today from my cell phone. Can't see the damage too much, but at least it's something. Estimator at a bodyshop says 4500+ to fix.

damn, what size intercooler is that? where did you get it from? Is it one of those 24x12x3 intercoolers off ebay emoji ?

Also, not sure if it would help you at all, but I have a hood in perfect condition that is that color !

Pffft emoji Thats nothing. Bodyman is saying that much because he's thinking you'll need a new hood and a new bumper and then paint. Go used and try to find the same color.
Like Terry said, get a support from a bone yard and weld it in. Or you can use my idea (which would be more fun) and pull the bitch back into place. emoji

I'd say WAY less than a grand for everything...

Yup. Freaking bodymen. emoji

From the looks of that thing, and it looks like some kind of dopey alien with googley eyes, you'll need a hood, bumper skin, a pair of headlights and maybe a fender. Not that bad.

Radiator support could give you some trouble, but if that's the extent of it, you're in a good positon, man. New radiator from Radiator Barn is under $150. I bet you could source everything you need in our own BST section over here for less than $500 shipped.

Oh yeah. And someone should shoot that fucking deer what did this to your car. Oh wait. They did. :smirk

The plan may be to just part out the car and then take the rolling chassis to the junkyard after talking with my dad (Take out motor, turbo kit, etc). There is no Eclipses within 50-60 miles that are in junkyards in my area. They are just not common and when there is one, basically everything is taken from it by the time you find one.

There are a few Talons in the area that are pretty cheap that I can afford (after selling a bunch of stuff off this current car) so I might go that route. My parents are going out of town tomorrow for a week so I will have to put car searching on hold until they get back (since loan will have to be taken out and need a co-signer).

Oh, and yeah it was an eBay intercooler. Don't remember the dimensions, but it was from the seller "Autosquare". Just a basic tube and fin one. Actually fit up very nice and filled up the grill opening as you can tell from my signature picture.

Glad you guys were ok after the crash, doesn't look pretty but I've seen fat chicks posing on hoods do worse.

BTW, didn't mention if it popped the airbags or not.

If you're going to get a Talon don't sell anything yet, just keep it as a parts car till you're square on whatever new car buy.

Yeah I don't plan on selling anything until I figure out what I'm getting. I have 3 possibilities so far: a white ESi, a dark green TSi FWD, and a TSi AWD that looks almost exactly like mine did.

Even if I put $1000 into the car, I will be right where I left off and have spent $1000, but if I bought a car for 2-3 grand, sold my turbo kit and motor I would be in the same money position pretty much and have a car that hasn't been in a accident and possibly a 4G63. I know I don't know too much about those motors, but I'm not gonna buy a car that has problems just to save a buck either. All the car options will be looked over and thought out thoroughly before purchase.

Whatever I do, I'm staying in the DSM game guys.

I know how you feel. If something like this happens to my Talon, it will be parted out in a heart beat.

I want a truck for a daily driver pretty bad, so the Talon will be gone in December anyways.

I have everything except the hood and radiator. 2Gb headlights and bumper (only a couple cracks on the bottom but not beyond repair. all you need is to get that hood off of Mike, and straighten your support the fun way like eclipzGST said. I just hate seeing guys give up on their cars.

Well the thing is is that the car isn't under my name. It's under my dad's name so we could have cheaper insurance so basically it's his decision with what we do with it and I am surprised that he is actually letting me part out most of the engine and whatnot. The next car should be under my name because I have to get a loan out on it so then I can do whatever I want with it.

A little update,

I was going to check out a 98 GSX tomorrow, but I called today and they had just recently sold it. I am now gonna check on a 96 Talon NT for pretty cheap instead, so if that works out, I will be staying here for a while longer haha.

UPDATE:

Alright guys, I got a new car tonight. 1996 Eagle Talon with 135,000 miles on her. Overall runs good and looks pretty good, just few small things need to be addressed. I only have 1 pic from my cell phone right now, but I will take more tomorrow along with transfer some of my old stuff from my eclipse to the talon. I am pretty excited as I always wanted a white 2g car and now I have one. I'll update more tomorrow, enjoy!

Woah, that was quick. You should have kept looking around for a nice, cheap gsx. After a boosted 420a, that non turbo just isnt going to do it for you now.

That's why the plan is to boost this one also emoji

Thing was is I NEEDED a car so I can go out and find a job. I just moved back to MN from TX after finishing college and I have no money or job so that is what I need. Can't find a job without transportation.
