Yeah. Thursday morning I dropped my Z off for the Fuel line recal, and to have the rear axel TSB done cause it's been clicking for almost two years now. They said they would have it back to me that night. Around 5pm I get a call from a service rep and he said they had to overnight parts and they would have it complete on friday. No problem. Friday morning I get a call from the Rep and he says my car was broken into. I'm furious. He made it sound a lot worse than it was, but it still sucks.

So here is why I (and the police) believe someone there did it, or had something to do with it.

1. The alarm was disabled.
2. The windows were not broken, they poped the door handle off. They they poped the sensor off the back of the tumbler and that causes the windows to roll down.
3. Another car, some pos grand am was damaged as well. Same thing, they poped the handle off. But they never tried to get in, and didn't steal anything. It was just to make it look random.

I go to check it out on friday. I get there and the work was complete, but they were trying to figure out why the windows wouldn't roll up. I tried my best to be civil and not flip out on them. But they tore the door apart trying to fix the window, and messed it up really bad. So I had to spend the better part of yesterday trying to reassemble the door correctly and reattach that sensor on my lock tumbler to get the windows to stay up. The damn mechanic kid there knew EXACTLY what the stolen parts were, he's like "You can still drive it, you just can't tune your fuel maps etc" Also, they stole the PC that I built into it, which was completly hidden in the compartment behind the driver seat. No wires or anything, you couldn't tell it was in there and the standard theif wouldn't have even looked behind the seat. They didn't take any cd's or dvd's. Didn't take the emanage or my wideband. They did get my Defi turbo and egt gauges, Greddy Profec e-01, Sirius radio, and my PC.

Good news is, the police got a lot of great finger prints. Fuck me, fuck you motherfucker.

That's the shits man, file suit with the dealer. If it was in their lot and broken into, they're liable for it. Plus that'll light a fire under their butts to find the culprit and turn him into the police. Good luck man, don't go Waco on anyone though, even though it might relieve some stress...

Most lots/mechanics/service centers will have a nice big sign hidden in the back of the shop that clearly states in fine print "Not responsible for lost or stolen articles"

Maybe so, but that does not translate into, "We can help ourselves to whatever you might have in your car that is of value." A computer, radio, and anything else physically installed in the vehicle is not something "left" like a wallet, cell phone or CDs. The dealership is fully responsible for replacement of any and all articles.

Derek, you need to be sure to contact the general manager of the dealership and explain to him that you will be providing him with a list of items stolen and the current retail prices for these items so that he can ensure your satisfaction and properly claim this incident on his insurance without further delay. Should you get a run-around or smoke screen, maybe we can get Jason to volunteer to write a nice letter from an attorney's point of view requesting the same. emoji

Ummm.. Fuckin-A! By the "Nothing stolen is our fault" mentality, your car could disappear overnight and they'd be able to get away with an "Ooops, sucks for you!" This will not fly in a court of law. I can't believe this happened at a dealership! If they don't provide you with the uttmost cooperation and a tidy little blow-job on the side for good measure, you ought to not only file suit, but call every local news agency (TV/Newspaper/etc.) and feed them your story about the dealership.

Being in the business, i agree 100% with what brian told you. It makes absolutely NO difference whether or not they have a "not responsible" sign in their lot. Their commercial liability policy will pay for the missing items. HOWEVER, They will have a rather high deductible on their master policy which means their insurance carrier will not have to pay out unless its over a certain amount. This sucks for you because it means it will be on the dealer which leads me to believe that they will drag their feet in paying you for your loss. Then to court, so on and so forth. If you havent already, contact the GM and tell him you have the right to know the name of his insurance carrier and that you are going to file a claim directly with them as a claiment. Good luck.

By the way...What forum are you on for the Z. I've joined www.my350Z.com and will be picking up my fairlady sometime this week.

the only problem is any fingerprint from a dealer employee will be ruled out due to handling the car for repair. So a thief working in the delaer gets an easy out. Truely sad.

But he didn't need to service the inside. He'd only need to be in it to drive it, or to pop the hood.

Same shit happened to a friend of mines SRT at a local dodge dealership. these guys went as far as to take the cylinder head from the car, as well as the seats, aftermarket radio and turbo timer. Currently pending litigation against the dealership; i mean come on, they took the damn head from the car, but yes they mantain it wasnt one of the mechanics.

I read this, and have been thinking about how lucky I've been never having my car broken into.... well I fuckin jinxed myself, last night between midnight and 1am, some dirty illegal (my neighborhood is within walking distance of some suburbian projects where they all live) broke into my car, stole my 300 dollar radio, my 300 radar detector, my 300 xbox that was in the back seat, and my case of cds. I hate people who steal, pretty much the only reason I hope there's a hell.

I'm not going to get any of it back either, and it isn't even worth it to report it to the insurance, so I'm basically fucked over until I can save money to buy that radio again (which I effin loved)

The whole "we are not responsible for lost/stolen items" sign is BS.

They still under the law are responsible if the car was currently in the process of being worked on. Only when you have dropped off a vehicle without their knowledge, or when you drop it off before the date they are supposed to work on it is that sign valid.

Trust me i did a lot of talking to lawyers when the 2.6 got broken into. They HAVE to pay you back for it all.

Sucks, Derek. Sometimes with insurance claims you end up in the black, and are able to get some nice new gauges and whatnot. That has happened to me twice now, it blows, but in the end it's a nice silver lining.

Yeah, there was this MILF investigator that lifted a print when my car was broken into in Lowell. I got a call almost a year later saying it wasn't mine, and they couldn't identify it, but they will keep it on record and if someone's print ever comes in that matches they will act on it. Whatever.

that sucks cause your insurance will go up more than $7 a month. Threaten to change insurance companies and maybe they will give you more.

Or maybe I'll just change insurance companies anyways. This one has been nothing but headaches, but then again I hear its the same with every insurance company. This sure sucks though, thats a grand farther away from turbo or a new car.

Fucking awesome! Looks like they stopped making my radio, bnadfjklbjgs.... this sucks. jvc kd-ar5500, doesn't even look like any used copies on amazon, hopefully ebay has some.. and of course they prolly won't have the mounting bracket i need for it... sigh. ebay has one seller with it, amazing... now where do i get the bracket for it? (the plastic double din faceplate kinda thing that has a pocket in it and a slot for the radio..)

I don't know if I mentioned it in my first post but my girlfriends brother works at an insurance agency that insures dealers. So I have a inside guy that's telling me exactly what I need to do! I think it's time to call the dealer back, funny they don't seem to want to return my calls. heh.

haha I tried to jack it, but to no avail. My petty nuances seem to be miniscule compared to etx's. But I did figure it was pointless to start a whole new thread when it woulda been basically the same story. Thieves suck. Hope you get yours and he gets fucked by the legal system etx, cuz mine prolly isn't heading anywhere soon, cept the next neighborhood for more radios.
