life is pretty good so far, hopefully this year I can come out of debt a little bit though.
Got a new job as a mechanic on the LCAC's for the Navy (hovercrafts)...its pretty insane. Sort of a long way from cars, but it pays good and keeps me well rounded.
Buying a Lincoln TIG welder for my own birthday present (how lame is that...) so im STOKED that i'll be able to go in the garage and weld anything I want at any time.
anyway just thought id share whats new and good, let the party begin!
side note: id like to make it out to the shootout this year, but my car will be down for a SERIOUS overhaul...can I hitch a ride with somebody local? if not maybe I can fly to like AZ and cruise out...

by the way, I have a Lincoln and a Hobart welder, both 110v, and I get a much nice weld with the hobart. My lincoln is 120 amp I think, Havnt seen it in 4 years, and my Hobart is 140 amp. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not. Give one a try if you havnt ever used one.

i dont think id be able to weld the thickness that i do (1/2" plate) with only 140 amps. I weld a lot of steel and steel alloys but i'd like the option of some thick(er) alluminum or exotic metals. I have used the hobarts before and I did like it but I already have my eye set on the Lincoln 185, its 220v though so ill be running it off the washer and dryer hookup lol. If i were to get a econo-mig or tig id definately look into hobart. I have a lot of hours on Lincoln tig welders as well as Millers but i'm just a Lincoln fan i'm a lot more consistent with them for some reason.

Not to thread jack but I was looking at courses at school and theres a trade course (5 classes) to get certified in material joining and welding n such..Does anyone think that'd be a decent idea to do in the mean time waiting to be accepted in another program?

I wanted to get a 220v welder, but I dont do any massive fabricating so I didnt waste the money on getting one then having to get a 220 line put in my garage. but its all good...

Happy birthday, Turb. I'd offer you shotty, but Daisy should be down for the count by Shootout time, as fucking usual. Now is the time to start talking it up if you want to go. Check on flights to Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, or Cleveland, then see if anyone carvaning in can spot you a ride.
It's always been "You get to the Shootout, we'll take care of the rest."
If you make it all the way across the country for the SO, I'm sure you'll have a place to crash.
