personally I like my pasport escort s2, we used a speed trap to do a test of how far it could pick up a ka band, the result was from the front in city mode it was able to ditect a radar from 1.3 miles away.

Wow. It's been almost two years since I've had a detector in the car. I had such a nice Passport. It was the upper level one with the text display. I must have had three of those things stolen. emoji

(sigh) One day. One day, I tell you. I'll have another one. emoji

I had one, too, at some point, but during all the changing of cars I did (every 3-6 months, for a few years), I think it grew legs.

Hehehe!!! Man the girl I'm with right now would put me and my STI in the grave! emoji

Ok guys got good news! This thing is the Bomb! It picked up radar from at least two miles and over a slight hill and the radar gun was facing the other direction!

I was on the bridge down just outside New Orleans on I-10 and before I even started up the hill it went off I kept going and expected a cop and no cop but instead it was a sigh they posted to tell everyone to drive slow over the ocean as the bridge is still weak or somthing to that effect.

This thing is sooo cool when the sun goes down it adjust the light on the detector to it's lowest level for you or you can override it.

The reason I upgraded was because of the Spectra 1, 2 and 3 radar detector detector and VG 4 is on the market now so it's best that if you travel at the speed of light to upgrade to this model or any other that can beat all the above because you will be telling him you are comming before you even get to see him and BAM!!!
He gottcha!!!

I had it in highway mode most of the time so in the city I think auto mode is the best.

The new passport 8500 can defeat VG2 & 4 as well as spectra 3 but not spectra 1 and 2 but is highly sensitive to radar it has been shown to pick up radar as far away as 9 miles!

Cobra can defeat spectra 1 and VG2 but not VG4 and spectra 2 and 3.

Valentine has not made a unit that can defeat spectra...YET! emoji

They can pick up your detector signal leackage from as far away as 1 mile depending on type and terrain.

I would recomend that you guys get one ASAP the federal govt. has cut funding to the states and well the states are turning on the people for revenue.

I let you guys know the maximum distance on flat ground no trees when I hit the desert I just know it's gonna be good emoji

I seriously don't understand why people don't just do some laps on freeway onramps when they get bit by that bug.

I see you must be very very young, I have seen with my own 2 eyes the Highway Patrol pull over a very good looking honda because he had graphics (Which by the way is HIS right to put on the outside of his car not the State) and he was going just as fast as the others in the hammer lane they all slowed down at the same time when they saw the Bear, yet they stuck it to him because he car was looking like a speeder.

I have had cops look funny at my little put-put and I don't even have it fixed up other than muffler and it looks stock (I seen em commin years ago when in the 60's my pops told me don't look at the cops when we rode around in his new Firebird.)

We drivers spend little if any money in the state of Ohio becuse of the Govenors statement: "I don't need federal funding I can make enough money off truck drivers to support some of the things in my state" or somthing to that effect, as a result the job market is tuff in Ohio and most of the new jobs they try to create out of thin air.

Can you imagine if it happened in all the states?

In fact there was a metting among all the Govenors and they said they may drop the speedlimits back down to 55mph nationwide!

You gonna do 55mph or are you gonna by a detector or are you gonna have a recall election???

To think that all cops are Honest is NUTTS!!!!

I have seen the Highway Patrol in Texas take all the stuff out people's cars big rigs and U hauls (Seats everything!) and from what I have been told to make them put it back in on the side of the road!

I don't think any cop would wanna do that to somebody I know or else he would get a calling card at a later date emoji

1. That will never happen.
2. I know exactly what you are saying about the Honda thing. But what are you going to do? When you hear your radar detector (which will be very often), are you going to take 10 minutes out of your drive to try to go around it?

Wait a minute they said the same thing back in the 70's and it happened, I kinda look at it as history repeating it's self.

I seriously doubt it would happen anytime soon. Very few people would agree with it. It would be political suicide for all those involved. Not to mention all the money it would take to update all the signs.
