#5845, "Computer question....HELP PLEASE!!!"

OK so my computer blew up. My power supply blew and took a couple of good friends with it (motherboard, processor, etc). So i went and bought a new dell computer. Now, the old hard drive on the fried computer is good and i have some documents, mp3's, porn, etc on it that i want to transfer to the new computer. Would the easiest way to do this be to just hook up that hard drive in the new computer and transfer D: to C:, and then take it out when I'm done? Or do they make anything that can turn a hard drive into kind of like a USB device that can plug in to a USB drive? I know this would be extremely easy to do if the other computer was working and I could just link the new computer to the old one, but unfortunately that's not an option. TIA!

Just take the old HD, set the jumper to slave, make sure the new one is set to master (not CS) and then start it up. Transfer everything over you want to save.
Then you can reformat the old HD, leave it in there and have that much extra space always available.

This is what I needed to know, thank you. If you have time and wouldn't mind pointing out a link to where I can get one of these I would appreciate it because I have no idea what that is called. Thanks again for your help!

OK, new disaster:

I bought the cable you guys recommended....it worked great on another hard drive...but the hard drive in question with ALL my stuff on it is not powering up. Not spinning at all. Does anyone have any idea on how to recover stuff from a dead hard drive? I'm kind of freaking out because it has about 3 months worth of work I did for an online class on it, and I only have about a month's worth backed up. UGH! Thanks so much

steve
