#2302, "Evo 8 1/4 mile times??"

I was at Midnight Madness this passed Saturday night here in San Antonio and saw 2 evo 8's running. They both ran mid-15's. I was completely baffled because I could have sworn these cars were a mid-to-high-13 second car. Now, they both had passengers, but at SAR (San Antonio Raceway) you're allowed to run down the 1/4 with a passenger if your car runs 14 seconds or slower. The two lined up next to each other, so I thought, cool, they'll run probably all out and let off at the end to stay +14.

I had to look several times when the 15.52 showed up on the board. I was like WTF??? They weren't plain lancers, unless the body work was done perfectly, including the factory-looking i/c.

Is this normal? I'm guessing they were sand-bagging, waiting for a mid-14 second car to put some money down or something.

I ran a 13.5@103 with just an air filter back in '03 my very first time at the track with the car (and my very first time launching an AWD). The 05's are EASY mid 13's totally stock (bigger hotside on the turbo than the 03-04's). There are a few documented Evo IX's that have dipped into the 12's stone stock...

They make everything automatic, but do you want it to be an auto., that's the question.

Evos do not come in an automatic. Even if they did they wouldn't be 2 whole seconds slower.

They were just shitty drivers.

I'm thinking they were just sand bagging, or going easy because of the passengers.

At Midnight Madness, you can 'call someone out' and race for a trophy and put a side bet on it if you like. They were probably putting on a show hoping to make some cash. I've seen bike street racers do this shit all the time. Put on an exibition race where neither launch worth a shit, or driver very well. Then completely whoop ass when it's for money.
