#9886, "Anyone know what the widest tire we can use?"

What are we talking about 225, 235? I want the widest tire possible on 18" rims. If I need to I am thinking I could get some rims that are offset a little to make room for wider tires. Let me know what you all think.

225 with no lowering work, 225 with lowering and no camber correction work, 225 with lowered and camber kit do not work, it will rub! Of course you have to take in account I have 16x8 momo's with 225 50 zr's(in fact I have looked at several other 50 series 225's and mine are quite a bit wider, mabey a cm or two, I think this is due to the 8 inch wide wheel, not sure though). I had to "roll" my rear fenders to make this combo work. Lowered about 1.75 front and 1.5 rear. Soon to be H&R race springs with tokico adjustable's. I already have the tokico's. emoji

From my personal experience,

You can get 245/40/18's on....You will rub....I had a set with those specs on rear a couple of months ago

The 235/40/18 that I had in the front did not rub......

This is with a 2in drop with a camber kit.....

The reason I had those tires on were because before I had the camber kit installed, I had 215/35/18s and my negative camber ate through them within 6 months, so I bought some used tires to ride around with until I sold the 18's

Hope that helsp

ALL STOCK!! except for this extra radiator in front of my stock bumper

Don't have the stock Eclipse anymore
Just a stock Gsr now, emoji

Go for the 235's. The little extra contact patch is worth it, to me anyway. They will rub if you don't roll the rear fenders. Before i rolled the rear, i could take off hard and set the inner lip right down on top of the last set of tread blocks. That was with my illuminas set to 5. After they were rolled i couldn't do anything to make them rub. No problems with the front at all. I'm lowered 1.7 with camber kits. Check my sig for wheel and tire size. Hope this helps.

I want 18's first off. And I want the widest tire I can fit on my car. Sounds to me like 235's. I just want to make sure I am not going to rub.

...because everybody forgets how contact patch really works. Contact patch is made by applying the flattest surface of tire on the ground. You run the most contact patch by running 8" wide rims with 225" tires. That's it. 245's will fit 8" with no problem even 225 fit 7" wide without buldge but the tire is NOT laying flat but on the sidewall instead. This doesn't create the contact patch but the opposide with sliding and driving on your side walls at higher speeds. Moral of the story is 225" on 8" wide rims create more contact patch than 8" and 235 or 245. If anyone still doesn't get it it means that 225/8 leave a bigger foot print that 245/8. Unless you're all about rice and want to say that my tire is bigger than yours. Personally I have 16X8/225. If I get a wide body kit I may do 8.5/235 but then I run quicker bearing failer, and it isn't worth it, because it is SO simple to make our cars drive "like its on rails"

Wider isn't always better emoji

Match the width of the tire to the width of your rim and the height of the tire (sidewall).

JESUS FUCKIN CHRIST!!! someone that actually knows what they're talking about. yes guys skrilla is exactly right. if you wanna "fit" the widest tires possible go get the 245's. if you want the best possible handling stay on 225's for an 8 inch wide rim. other wise the sidewall will flex and the tire carcas is gonna flex.

thanks beefgg for the sig
