#9733, "ball joint and axel question"

when pulling my axels out i acciden't pulled the ball joint apart on the drivers side. can this be put back together??? does it just pop back together?

and i still cannot get my fucking axel out on the drivers side. its in the hub and won't come out. I've pounded with a hammer, and tonight tried usinga pulley pullier to push it out. i need to replace the cv boot is my only reason i'm trying to take it out. Can i replace it with out pulling the axel maybe??????

Well, pull the ball joints in the hub, pull it out, thread the nut onto the end of the axle about 1/2 way, put a big f***ing hammer on it, and hit the hammer with another big F***ing hammer. Just keep hitting it. What do you mean that a ball joint popped out? Is the seat still bolted in the hub? Did the ball itself pop out? Or did the whole oint fall out of the hub? If the whole joint fell out, then that is alright. If the ball popped out, then consider yourself lucky that it didn't happen while driving. Which ball joint is this, by the way?

OK, maybe its not the ball joint. I think it is but maybe not. Its the part thats right next to teh tranny that has the rubber boot around it. the boot isn't broken but the two sides have pulled apart from each other. It actually feels like a knuckle more than anything.

i'll try threading the nut on and hiting it. thanks

the piece that has pulled apart is the pieces being covered by the rubber boot on the left hand side

Ah, with a tool that puts on bands, that could be easily fixed. If the threaded end of the axle is bent, then I don't think that there is anything that would fix that. Sorry it was my suggestion that did the axle in, but it worked for me. Is the axle still in the hub? Is the hub still in the spindle?

That actually sounds like a wheel bearing. Those need to be replaced, but it isn't too easy because the wheel bearing is a sealed unit that is a part of the hub. That means that you need to pop out the axle and remove the 4 bolts on the back of the spindle, replace the bearing, and bolt it back up, using a new cottor pin on the axle nut.

joy i hope its not that emoji its not really a crazy screeching noise, kinda like a real low creak sound like how a door creaks, I dono really, my ol man checked it out n said my ball joints probably needed some grease in there.
