#9408, "Axle boot has a hole, how much to fix it?"
I was just wondering how much it would be to have the front driver side axle boot replaced, can any shop repair this? Satan can not be found in Bismarck ND, there is a chrysler place and a Dodge place that use to sell the Eagle talons.

the boot is like 12 bucks and your lookin at like 40 to do it. it's stupid you should just get new axles. you prolly need them if your to the point of holes in the boots. axles are like 140 ish and shops will vary on price. rednecks think our cars are hard to work on when in fact CV's on an eclipse are easier than CV's on a 4wd S10.

Well, you have to think. If there is a hole in the boot that means dirt and moisture have gotten in there and have probobly started messin' up your cv joint. and that means it needs to be replaced as well. It is easier and more cost effective to get a remanufatured axle from an auto-parts store and put it on. As far as installation I've never done it on an eclipse but I have done it on a Saturn, and a toyota. The basic deal is pull off the wheel, undo the hub/knuckle pull it off of the end of the axle. There are probobly some retaining clips you need to remove. Then pull the axle out of the transaxle, and push the new one in. It could slide in easy or it might be a bitch, I don't know. Then reverse the process that you used to get it off. I don't recommend just changing the boot 'cause you'll have bigger problems when the joint breaks. Hope I could help.
Edit: also if it is a bitch to slide in do not hit the outside end of the axle with a hammer, this can fuck up the splines. put a block of wood over the end and then hit it or use a brass hammer. All of this after you are sure the splines are lined up at the transaxle.
