#9173, "HELP **rotor will not come off....."

ok today I was going to install my brembo cross drilled and pads today..I removed the caliper and the rotor should just slide right off...well after many hits with the hammer its not off....I can wiggle it and shimmy it but it gets about half way off the studs and then just will not go any more...WTF I was out there for an hour or so and gave up and put it back together... I just could not figure out why it was getting stuck..I have a 97rs

hammer the studs a little until the rotor comes off. no harm in doing that.

Tried that...I was hitting it pretty good but still being carefull. I coulnt really hit it good from the backside becasue of little room and the dust shield.

There's also a hole in the rotor that you can thread a bolt into to try to gain some leverage in getting it off. Hope that works. Or else spray it down with WD40 maybe?

Heh, I was in the same boat not to long ago. My fronts were a bitch to get off. Ended up soaking the hub and bolts down in wd-40. Let it sit for a little then came back. Used a hammer and hit the back side then turned the rotor a little and smacked it again. Eventually they came off.

Use the 2 threaded holes on the front of the rotor. That is what they are meant for. When you thread a bolt in there, it pushes out the rotor and it pops off. I personally wouldn't beat on the rotor too hard, might bend or damage something, esp the wheel bearings...I used the bolts and it came right off...Just find the right size thread and you'll be good to go..

well using the 8mm thread will not work because it is already broken free just will not come completly off...I will try soaking down the hub and studs and getting a big rubber hammer and hit the bitch like a red headed step child..I tried the other side today and the same thing it gets about half way off and seems to get stuck on the hub..as if the hub is worped?...ahhhh

At first I was thinking that you should thread in the two bolts too, but it sounds like the disk is already 1/2 off, so it's kinda dangling 1/2 way on the studs? That sounds like your studs are not parallel!!! One of them might be off and that's all it would take. At this point, the only thing I can think of is push the disk all the way back on, then take a right-edge and check the angle around each stud from the disk. Whatever stud isn't exactly 90degrees to the disk - start wacking with a hammer to get it back to perpendicular. Something is really wrong here, you might have to replace a stud.

Good luck, I guess I was lucky since mine slid off with zero force. Just took off the wheel and caliper and it came right off.

Usually the rotor practically falls off once the caliper bracket is off. Your studs could be bent and that is causing the rotor to have a hard time coming off. Fortunately replacing the studs isn't as expensive or tough as it would seem (although I've never done it)

otherwise just hit the thing until it comes off, if it breaks so what, stock rotors suck and you're going to throw them away anyway emoji
