#9135, "Car jumps when putting into gear - Help please"

It doesn't matter how slow I let the clutch out... The car always lurches back and forth real bad when I go from a stop... then from 1st to 2nd... and so on. It makes driving in bumper to bumper traffic a horrible experience. It happens when I'm running at mid-range rpm and I take my foot off of the gas... the car lurches back and forth.

My theory is that my motor mounts are busted (I haven't installed motor mount inserts). When I start going, my motor torques and then flops around in the engine bay which makes the crappy back and forth motion of the car.

Can anybody confirm my theory?
Has anybody else ever had this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the motor mounts bit it hard. Try a set of inserts. Or you could have had happen what happened to me... my front motor mount came unbolted from the crossmember!
Check the mounts, and bleed the clutch (can't hurt)

Sure you know how to drive stick? emoji

Check the mounts and see, does it feel suspension related or engine? possibly ignition or something like that...

Fuck yeah I know how to drive da stick... just wait til I get down to Route 66 and I'll line up with you and show you... j/k. Sorry I couldn't make it last Tuesday. I had an emergency at work... shoulda called ya.

It isn't engine related... it doesn't misfire or sputter at all... The thing just bucks like a horse when I go from a stop. I'm gonna do some investigation this weekend on the mounts... I hope that is it.

well it appears i feel your pain also.. this happens to my car on occasion and mostly in the morning. im not sure what it is.. it always seemed to feel like the car was jumping on its front wheels or something.. i think it might just be how im letting off the clutch though and engaging.. when i notice it happening i will try and engage the clutch much easier and put more gass into it. i thought it was the motor mounts, but since it doesnt do it allt he time, i doubt its that. and i konw its not the shocks as ive gone through my stock blown shocks and have new illuminas and still happens on occasion, and in the morning, as if it might just be me. it might even be my clutch/tranny that is doing it.. i know its not in the best shape and may be leaking, but oh well. ill be putting in the motor mount inserts soon so ill be able to see if they might be part of the culprit.

Have you done anything with the clutch line??? I replaced mine to Stainless Steel. I don't think that caused it, but I'm trying to think of everything here. Good too see I'm not the only one, but I guess it isn't really good that I'm not the only one, too.

I just checked my front motor mount... seems to be in perfect condition. I can't get to the back one to check it. I hope it is fucked up so I can blame this whole thing on it.

I actually sheared the front mount bolt in half. If it is a mount problem it will make a metal on metal slapping sound (while jerking back and forth). It sounds to me like your clutch is engaging too soon, might want to check the fluid and possibly change the fliud to a better grade. late mike

When did you switch to the SS line? I have the SS line and no restrictor. It has a much more direct feel to it, I love that mod.

Or hell I close let me just take a ride and see what it feels like...
