#8205, "Please Help Me Out Guys Before I Go Crazy & Spend My Money HELP ME THIS TIME PLZ!!!"

Hehe...my title is kinda serious. This problem is starting to worry me more now...it wasnt nothing big before...but now its getting louder. I have become more descriptive and have added pictures with my problem. Ok here goes....when I drive straight with my foot NOT on the gas, but still in a gear, you hear a knocking sound in the front driver's side area...im guessing wheel area. But when I DO press the gas, you dont hear the knocking sound and also when I BRAKE, you dont hear the knocking sound. So Im guessing that its sum part that jus lets the wheel roll freely, I dont know if there is even such a part, but I know I am missing two lug nuts in that wheel area and also the pegs that you screw the lugs on. (Yea das my other problem...is that dangerious to be driving around only on 3 lug nuts?) Well here go sum pix.... PLEASE ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED (Cucumber come up here to Nashville and help me out if you can)

I dont know, but its not good to ride on 3 lugs. 4 is okay, but i think 3 is pushing it. at least fill in every other hole with a lug and not 2 in a row empty.

umm I heared that same knocking sound in my jetta right before the rim fell off. Are the lugs on tight? that may be the problem or it my just be the fact that you are missing two lugs.

GET SOME LUG NUTS ASAP.

Thats probably what the noise is. If you are missing 2 lug nuts the other 3 can be loosened by the wheel being able to move around more than it should and the wheel could just come off!!! :o

The pegs you are talking about are studs. I stripped mine too, and to replace them cost me 40 bucks.

DO NOT drive the car like that! You are asking for trouble. I am going to assume being you did not know they were studs that you do not have the "ability" to replace them yourself. I would proceed to the nearest dealer/Pep Boys/tire shop etc.. and get them fixed. But do not drive the car otherwise. We do not want to hear about you in an accident man! Be safe!

now michael, I told you it was probably the reason was driving with three lugs on one wheel. Dude, get that fixed quick, I can probably get you the hook up down here in the boro.

at the dealership, those wheels studs are about $2 a piece. all you do is undo the your break calipers, not from the brake lines but from the wheels assembly, hammer them bitches out, put your rotor back on, put the wheel back on and you are done. i had to do mine. i kept hearing this little chirping sound. sure enough, that was the problem. i was able to take off one of the nuts by hand! in the process of taking them off, i had 6 broken studs from the 2 front wheels. atleast the problem only cost me $20.

yeah.. they can change out wheel studs in nascar in a few minutes. It shouldn't cost that much to get it fixed... especially if you compare it to the cost of getting all of your shit worked on if your wheel were to fall off.

LoL I love it when people freak out about the littlest things.

Anyway go to a tire store (any) and they will replace each stud and put a new lug nut on in about 20 minutes for about $25.

Such shocking news!

Man, at least put wheel locks on. I didn't notice any wheel locks, but that's what I would do with those rims.

2 of your 3 remaining lug nuts look the wrong kind as well, letting the wheel move around. Look the space between the wheel and the stud. The proper lug nut will have a flat washer behing the hex and a shoulder that fits into that space. If you get the studs replaced and put on the wrong lug nuts (taper or flat) that don't have the shoulder, your noise WILL come back. Along with the elongation on the holes in the wheel.

EDIT - The lug by the "O" in OZ looks like the right one by the way.

The problem is your missing lugnts and studs. The knocking is caused by it too. Get that fixed and everything will be good.

Jeezzzzzz.....

Who owned that car before you?? i didnt know there were so many different kinds of lug nuts. My advice would be to get that all fixed up, get the right kind of lugs and get all the broken studs replaced. It might cost you (or your parents) 100 bucks but better safe then sorry.

DON'T use tapered lug nuts. The wheels aren't designed for it. Have them put on the PROPER shouldered lug nuts. I would insist on it.
