That it's almost time for a brake job.

Well GS's have 4-wheel ABS. That means your gonna have to change all 4 brakes. That's gonna cost you an arm and a leg to have someone do it.

Actually GS's do not come with 4 wheel ABS. And even if it did, why would we have to change all 4 brakes at once? Am I missing something?

BTW, just for labor, I paid 40 bucks to have a mechanic resurface the rotors and change the pads on the fronts (not including parts - I use metal master pads which are great, for 55 bucks from Road Race Engineering).

I'm pretty sure that my fiance's 97 GS came with 4-wheel ABS. There was an 'ABS' light that turned on when the car starts. To me, if the brakes are going bad (the one's with a 4-wheel), it makes sense to change ALL brakes instead of just changing the front or back. Eventually, the other set will go bad so why not change them in one swipe.

Actually, that is not true, because our cars use a lot more of the front brake pads than the rear. Most of the braking pressure is applied to the fronts. I have changed the front pads twice already, and have never changed the rears. Most people hardly ever have to change the rears.

Either
(1) Your brakes are dirty. Solution: Clean off the brake dust with a good amount of water.

(2) Your pads are going. Solution: Change your pads. If you aren't sure which pads are making the noise, take off the wheels and check which doesn't have much of the pad left. Most likely it's the front as they don't last as long on FWD cars.
