#6675, "Arospeed floorbar, any good, comments?"

Hey I was talking to my buddy about suspension crap and he was saying that TRD or something makes a floorbar for his car (94 Supra TT). I recall Arospeed making one, it's the same idea as a strut tower bar, but it mounts inside the car over behind the front seats in the seatbelt mounting bolts. Here's the info they give on it:

"The Arospeed lower floor bar is designed to create a brace between each side of the chasis. This bar is placed in between the front and rear seat floor, and bolts directly into the seatbelt mount. By being placed in a centralized area of the vehicle it helps to create a more rigid chasis which can also help stiffen the suspension. It also helps to give the car the look at feel that most sport compact owners desire. "

I know the one for the Supra is supoosed to do wonders, anyone know if this would be a worthwhile upgrade, suspension wise?

TIA

the cross beam is great idea, but the arospeed bar is just like most of arospeed products...half ass

the mounts are cheap and flex easily. to get the most of a cross beam, you need a sturdy beam, and it should be welded in place. if bolting in is a must, extremely sturdy mounts should be used. the arospeed ones are way to flimsy to help significantly.

The cross beam works by stiffening the chassis in its weakest point, in the middle. if you put flimsy mounts on the crossbeam, the mounts will flex, so whats the point?

if i'm not mistaking, akimoto/monkey bars makes that rear seat roll bar for our car. it's a mini roll cage for the back seat that lets you still fold down your rear seat and have people able to sit in it. does anyone know for sure??

That's something I would also consider, that would stiffen up the ride conciderably right?

Those stupid mokey bars don't do anything. They are all show. Go to a track with those and you will get laughed at when you don't run an 11 second pass.

i was looking through an import tuner from a few months ago, and there was a company selling roll cages (full or half) for our car. the big one was $330, and the smaller one was like $220. the full roll cage even had a mounting spot where a camcorder would sit so you can tape your passes. those must be the "real" kind, or else, why would you bother with the camera?

i didn't even read it that closely... when he said "pass" i assumed he was talking about auto-cross. i didn't realize he said 11 second. lol. yeah, i don't think floor bars will help you any in a straight line.

he meant about moneybars that people put in the rear for show cars to have them look of a drag car w/ a rollcage. floor bar and mokey bars are two totally different things.. they are like miny fake rollcages(monkey bars), and the floor bar goes just across the bottom of the floor to stiffen the center of car.

I've heard the ones by akimoto that go behind the front seats and over the hump are really effective when mated with front and rear strut tower braces. More-so with convertables since they flex so much.
Of course they won't help with drag racing. But then again neither will strut tower braces if your running in a "straight line".
If you auto-X try them.....
