Ok I ordered the Energy Suspension motormount inserts and I installed the susposedly front mounts. It was pretty easy drop the crossmember and pot em in and put it back. But I was looking on RREs site and it sez to put those gigantic washers on the crossmember mount and I see it in the picture.

I'm pretty sure I installed the front one right, meaning I guessed which one fit and fit it. But the gigantic washer was under the inserts that go to the rear mount, I guessed that the washer goes in the rear mount because it got packaged with it so I didn't put it. So does the washer go in the front or rear mounts?

darn haha damn them them for packaging them like that. No instructions also emoji Koo thanx

Haha they have some stupid serial numbers that say front and back on them but the numbers aren't on the mounts... grr.

I haven't done the rear yet, what exactly do I have to do to get em, I can't even see them. From what I've heard on RREs site you ahve to take the battery/tray out, intake piping, and stuff out. Will I have to lift the engine also?

Also remove washer fluid reservoir. You don't need to lift the engine, just use long rachet extension.

Actually, when I spoke to the guy at Energy (I think his bane was Mike) he said that each mount gets a washer. one on the front mount and one on the rear. The washer goes on the passenger side, he said.

I'm guessing solid mounts have more effect as inserts, but they'll make your car vibrate. THe main purpose of engine mounts as to deaden the vibration of the rotating mass in your engine. Under hard acceleration though the engine jumps up and down and does all this bad stuff though, so strenghtening the mounts is a good idea if your pushing lots of power. You can have a speedshop order them for you if they have a catalog I believe. RRE sells prothane inserts and replacements but they say they are really still might as well go for the AFX ones.

i got energy suspension motor mounts too.. still waiting to get mine.

From what i heard and learned, yes, both washers go on the front motor mount.

Here's a write up from blake on the board:

"basically, for the front one, if you look underneath the car, you'll see the large crossmember that goes down the center line of the car. It supports the front of the engine. towards the front of the car, on the other side of that beam, you'll see the first motor mount. You'll need a 14mm 1/2" drive socket and you can remove the two bolts from directly underneath the crossmember(once you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about). then you'll need that 14mm socket wrench and a 14mm endwrench to take out the bolt that connects the engine to the motormount. Once you get that bolt out, you can slide the motormount out and you'll see how the mounts fit in there. also, be sure to use the large(supplied) washers on the front mount. then just put her all back together and tighten her down.

for the rear. it's a little more complicated. you need to remove your intake, battery, and the battery tray. once you get those out, you need to take out the windsheild washer resivoir and take out the two bolts holding the brake resivoir in place(you won't disconnect it, just let it loose so you can get the window resivoir out). look out for the connectors at the top and bottom of the window resivoir. Once you have those out, get your 14mm 1/2" drive socket wrench again(this time with a 2-4" extension) and you're going to take out the three bolts that hold the bracket to the engine, and the bracket that holds it to the motormount. Its easier to do it this way rather than try to remove the mount itself. slide in your inserts, and put it all back together. and you're all set. "

I found a page with pics of the install... but i forget the link... searched for it and can't find it either... But the pics didn't help too much.. it was also for a GSX, so it might be a little different. Hope i helped.

I didn't put the washers in any of them. Doesn't seem to make any difference in the way they perform. Love my inserts.

There was short proceedure done by one of the board members around june/july 01 I think it was in the suspension section. It had full description and pics for the install for the rear sec. It was really simple you could install the insert in about an hour. Basically you needed to remove the air intake, battery, and window washer reseivor, tools need was i think 14/17mm sockets, long extention. The vehicle don't need to be lifted.

that was me, but I lost the pics for it. once you get in there, it's pretty straight forward. the procedure listed above should take you right through it. I did mine and Micheal_97rs's

Well I got it after like 1.5 hours of surgery hehe. It was pretty straight forward, thanx for the install tips they helped out a lot. Haha it helps to know how mnay bolts there are. Haha I was taking bolts out all over the place. You said like 3 and I did the two on the tranny and like one of the one on the frame and no budgie. So I find out there are two more! The socket didn't even fit into one of them watta bitch, I had to use a closed end wrench and the extension to pry it loose. Check out my install pix on a seperate thread on the handling page for more info and the RESULTS! emoji
