Just got my Pro-Kit spring today and on the installation it saz I need to trim the front bump stops for about an inch. Is everyone here with Pro-Kit did this while installing their springs? I don't need to worry about the back right?

That's exactly right. You have to cut your bumpstops a bit when doing this isntallation(I think it's about 20+ mm's). Also, you're right again, no cutting is required for the rear. I recommend using some sort of spring compression for the fronts as they are a tad tight (not terrible though). The rears don't even really need a compressor. I hope you're doing your struts at the same time b/c it'll take you the same amount of time do the whole thing anyways PLUS your stock struts won't last 6 months after being lowered.

why do u got to cut the front bump stop? i have the pro kit on my gs and did not cut it? bad good ? how much do u have to cut and why? also will it effect anything with the shocks or springs? thanks michael 99gs

First off, yes, on the advice of others, I did use a REAR camber kit. I bought the $40 RRE camber kit SPECIFICALLY made for the Eibach Pro-kit on a 2g DSM. (how perfect can you get ) And as for installation, I doubt anything has been easier for me than this install(maybe the STB). Just use your breaker bar, and go to town. Really easy, and no toe or camber problems. The front doesn't need any camber kit. For, I'd say up to a 1.75" drop even, you probably wouldn't need a front camber kit. Over that, you're treading dangerous waters.

Second, I cut the bumpstops because the yellow supplement accompanying the struts(tokico) or springs(eibach) told me to do so. For some reason, I'm having a total blank as to which product told me that, but I really like to follow instructions. The instructions did provide some reasoning as to why it was necessary.

On a final note, make sure to get your alignment AFTER installing your camber kit.

This suspension is really a great addition to any car. Not only does it give you the obvious and wonderful aesthetic improvements and 100% better handling, but the improved feel and off-the-line throttle response will feel many times bettter. Wheel-hop should be reduced a very great deal. You'll actually feel like you have a "sports car" now.

BTW, I installed my springs/shocks while at RRE, and the guys there said to cut BOTH the front and rear in HALF. There's no harm in cutting it, except for more suspension travel, so I guess its better to do it in case you drive crazy over some bumps or corner hard.

The bumpstops have to be cut when installing any aftermarket springs. I'll try to explain this in a simplified way from the top of my head, but there are better sources that would be good to read up on this stuff with more detailed info. The idea is that cutting the bumpstops will restore some of the suspension travel lost when installing a shorter spring to lower the car. It is not good to run out of travel. What happens is the spring will fully compress and then ride on the bumpstop which makes the spring rate infinite, or basically nonexistant. This is also why it is important to have stiff springs. A softer spring will compress much quicker than a stiff spring and has that much less room for travel. That is a very unsafe situation to be in. It can make the car do some dangerous stuff like lose the rear end. The easiest way I can think of to recreate this by taking a very long sweeping corner as fast as possible. Or a skidpad. Basically and simplified, drive in circles in a parking lot and see how fast you can go maintaing a perfect circle without sliding. your suspension will compress on the inside part of the car.

Murix, you mean outside don't you?
Physics Lesson and brief explanation of handling.
As a car turn right the inertia of the vehicle wants the car to remain going straight. So the weigh transfers in a direction tangent to the arc that the car takes. This transfers the weigh of the car to the outside tires in this case the left tires. More so the left front than any other. So this compresses the spring strut combo on the outside of the car and decompresses the inside tires.
With stiffer springs and stronger struts the amount that the body rolls will be reduced. Keeping more rubber on the pavement. and allowing your car to corner faster, by maintaining grip.
Well there's my physics for the day. (I knew Purdue would come in handy one day)

Pro-kit= 1.2 front/ 1.2 rear
Sportlines= 1.6 front/ 1.6 rear


Now, these are the "Advertised" numbers. I'm actually guessing that the Pro-kit went slightly lower than that, possibly closer to 1.5. That means the Sportlines may possibly be even lower. Either way, it really looks nice, and frames my wheels now perfectly. And not to downtrod on the stock springs and and wheel-gap, but when my car is next to other 2g eclipses, their stock wheel gaps really looks ridiculous.

Oh, and by the way, the picture of mine below DOES NOT include my new lowered suspension.

I hear you Jason...

I am very satisfied with the way the 2G look in bone stock except that ugly wheel gap. As far as I can see, the 3G also has this problem. What the hell was Mitsu thinking? We are all gonna get 20" rims or something? I mean by looking from the side, it's like the car is jacked up in the air or something, and my friend who owns a Honduh always made fun of my car because of the wheel gap.

Oh well, he'll have nothing to say after I put on my pro-kit

Pro-kit: around $170 + shipping

Tokico Non-adj: under $200 + shipping

Rear camber kits: $40 from RRE

170 + 200 + 40 = $ 410 + shipping

When I ordered my Tokico shocks back in August they charged a lot on the shipping ($30+ or something) but it still turned out to be a good deal. Last time I checked they dropped the shipping rate a lot. So you can save even more right now.

Cool thanks Now all I have to do is pay off my credit card..I just charged my Powerslot rotors (all four), Axxis Metal Master pads (front and rear), Magnecore wires and NGK plugs...after that then it's lower time. Or exhaust time
