Yes its what the title says. Im doing my rear coils 2morrow, and I dotn want to pay $40 just to rent strut compressors.
With my front struts i would wrap it in a blanket and twist the screw thru the blanket so the blanket would control its little explosion. i know you guys are saying "what the hell it barely pops anyways" but i was freakin out. i know its not bad but it sux knowing its gonna happen.
so i was wonddring, what if i left the strut completely in the car? what if i jacked the car up, took the tire off, then, with the strut and suspension compeltely still in place, what if i loosed off the but from above. wouldnt this work? yes? no?

I don't think that is a good idea. It may shoot up anyways, and hit stuff. I would just take it all off, and aim it into a trash can when you loosen it...or, if you have an Autozone near you, they rent the strut compressor for free. You give them a 40 dollar deposit that you get back when you return it...

at least find something to clamp it down. Use an impact gun if you got it to undo the nut and look the other way when you do it. Haha my friend did that to his struts. "OK EVERYONE WATCH OUT!" haha
