#3686, "Can stock shocks hold???????"

I'm finally gonna install my Maxspeed coil-overs really soon. I was just wondering if the stock shocks can handle a 1-1.5 inch drop, without blowing??? Maybe even a 2 inch drop???? Also, does anyone know the stock spring rates of the factory springs??? Thanks!!!!

They will hold for a while. Just start saving up for some new sturts. Put a few bucks aside per day and when they blow or start to go than you should have enough money for new ones.

you're going to have to grind the shit out of your stock shocks to fit a coilover setup.

hahahaha! that works too:)

to fit coilover sleeves, you have to remove the perch one way or another. I bought koni yellows just so I wouldn't have to do any grinding.

been 3 1/2 yrs now and counting on a 3" drop with stock struts...still good as new. I'm wondering where you guys drive over to blow your struts out...lol! Must be mudhogging or hitting da bumps and dips too hard. If you own a lowered car...u gotta drive like a lowered car! emoji

yeah i was lowered 3 inches for 3 years on stock shocks. they were blown when i removed them but i never knew it (because blown stock shocks dont feel any worse than new stock shocks. you dont have to grind anyhting, the stock spring perches are removable just like the konis.

It all depends. Some people cry that they blow their shit after just a week, I have had Skunk2 coilovers for over 2 years now and I still have stock struts no problems as of yet.

When I had my springs installed they told me the struts were blown and I needed to replace them right away. I told them Fuck it and drove on the blown struts for 1 year. The last 4 months there was shit leaking out of the back right one and the ride was a little rough but no big deal. Go ahead and get the coilovers installed and then install the shocks when you get the money.

Hey RoboTech,
If you want some help to install the coil overs yourself instead of paying $100 at a shop let me know. I have done it a few times and it would be cool to meet a local 2gNTer.

Renting a spring compressor is a given, make sure it's the right kind that will work with our spring/strut setup. The first one they gave me at Autozone had to go it the middle of the spring to work and our strut is in the middle of the spring!

The other important thing is the walk thru that Corbin wrote up. That is the bible for a first timer. It's really a simple install when it comes down to it, just a little time consuming.

Hit me up on AIM (OhShootUhh) or email me if you do want some help because I would be glad to help if I can make it. I do work some fucked up hours so we'll have to talk about it.
