I honestly don't think you can get a 225 on a 7" wide wheel. I think you need 7.5"-8" wide wheel. I say go 215..thats what I'm goin with

i HAVE 225/45-17's on a 17x7" wheel. they fit just fine. as a matter of fact, they fit more like a factory fit than a 215. ever notice how those really ricey guys put something like a 205/40-17 on a 17x8 and the sidewalls are angled in so much you can almost use them as tread surface? i HATE that! lol. my sidewalls have a nice rounded shape to them similar to the way my stock wheels and tires looked.

don't get me wrong, 215's will also fit fine. we're only talking about a centimeter difference in section width so it's not a big deal either way. your choice.

Right Hoot,

I've also read that people in stock OEM 17" rims from the GSX's or Talons (like mine) have in fact fit 225's on their rides. From what I understand, those rims are only 6.5" wide, so deductively speaking, 7" wide rims are an ample width for a 225 wide tire.

BTW, I'm very soon going to buy probably my own 17 x 7 rim/ tire combo and have been weighing the adv/disadv of both.

Can anyone perhaps comment on what they feel like may be a better choice? (I want a ride that is both quick and handles well...by going with a tire that is 225 instead of 215, is there a significant speed drop-off?)

there shouldn't be any speed drop off between the two. not anything noticeable anyways. but with the wider contact patch you''l catch more traction through turns and take-offs and you'll need that with your turbo a$$!

Jason, i run 225's on my 16x8's ..

I noticed absolutely no decrease in speed when i went from 205's to 225's.. only better cornering and a lot more traction.

i run 225/45/17 potenza re730's on 17x8 sparcos. they hook like leeches. 225s on 17x7 will be jsut fine.. just as long as your rims are atleast about 80% of the tread. 215's on 17x7 are 82.6977% of a 215 tire.... 17x7s are 79.0222% of a 225inch tread.. i THINK 80-92/94% is ideal, but 79 is close enough... mine is 90.3111% (8inch rims w/225)

thank god I have my TI-89 graphing calculator! the inches to centimeter conversion is definitely worth the 180 bucks! (two years old now) ... it REALLY saves me the agony of multiplying by 2.54!
