My buddy has a set of Megan Racing coilovers in his 3000gt and he seems pretty happy with them. Also when upgrading to coilovers, will I need to replace control arms or do any sort of camber mods?

You shouldn't have to replace any control arms and depending on how low you put will depend on if you need to do a camber correction on it. I would suggest to get front and rear camber kits for it just in case so that when you get the height you like, you can have it properly aligned.
As far as having them, I don't but will eventually upgrade to a coilover setup.

Megan Racing is actually a really good coilover for the money. The Megan actually have ride height and preload adjustment separate of each other where as the Tein basics only have ride hight adjustment which intern changes the preload as well. The 1g guys love this things, like I said, these imo are good for the money. They are the ones I plan on getting.

One of my buddys has a set of these on his 93 gsx, very nice setup, having the ability to adjust them makes a great deal of difference @ the track, and for $400 less than the teins, you cant go wrong
