#31963, "17" tire size?"

Hey, I was wondering what tire size you all prefer with 17" rims? The stock 215/50/17 or something else? Any input/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

17x7 I prefer 225/45

17x8 I prefer 245/40

Knowing how wide the rims are and the offset is a big part of the equation.

It all depends on what width rim you have to work with. Personally would go with a 225/45, right now I have prada spec II 215/45's and I don't think they fill out the wheel well enough and could use some more width.

in the front I have 235/45 and in the rears I have 225/45 this set up feels pretty good and also fills most the wheel gap with sportline springs

Personally I prefer a 205/45/17 on a 17x7 wheel because the shoulder of the tire is square on the wheel. There is no stretching. The shoulder being squared out like this does make the ride a bit rougher, but it gives a better feel for the road.

I'm running 245/45/r17s on 17*8 rims 35mm offset, and I'm lowered. I don't know how much I am lowered, however I have 1 finger fender gap front and rear. The car does not rub on full turns either.

a 45 profile is kinda high however for some people and i do feel that a 40 series would look better.

I've got 235/45r17's on factory Evo 8 17x8 wheels. no rubbing but they do just miss the uprights by a hair or two. I like how they feel (when the car is running)

so i'm guessing from what i just read 255/40's on a stock evo rim might be too much for an Eclipse. could i fit them with rolled fenders?

I'd be more concerned with the tire rubbing the knuckle upright on the backside with that width on an Evo wheel. my 235/45's are a hair away from rubbing on Evo wheels

I have a quick question...can 225/45/17's fit both 17x7 and 17x8 rims satisfactorily? Reason being I want to just get new 225's now on my current 17x7 rims and then in a few months when I have more $$ I want to upgrade just the rims and re-use the same tires....so I was wondering if 225 would be a nice "bridge" between the two rim widths?

It should be fine. It won't square up on the 17x7 so you will notice the tread being a touch wider than the wheel itself. When you go to the 17x8 it should square up or slightly stretch. Either way you should be fine.

on the 17x8 it'll square up quite nicely. that's the factory size for Subaru STi wheels.

Good to know. I wasn't sure since I don't own any 8" wide wheels.

Not trying to highjack the thread, but will a 17x8 rim on the 225/45/17 size tire come clsoe to rubbing the suspension with an offset of 35mm? I was also going to switch my current 225/45/17 tires over to some 17x8 rims and was trying to stay with a 38-40mm offset, but was wondering since I had found alot of the 17x8 rims I like with only a 35mm offset option.

You should be ok. I believe that is the same offset as Evo 8 wheels and those fit.

Evo 8's are +38mm but that 3mm difference is actually going to help keep from rubbing. that fitment should be damn near perfect.
