On the front calipers the lock pin is on top and the guide pin is on the bottom. In the manual it says that this is reversed for the rear calipers. Does anyone know if this is right?

another caliper question:
After cleaning the parts for the rear drum-to-disc conv.I was trying to take out the lock pin, until it realized what i was doing, then i just took out the other one...when, the lock one came out too, now the caliper bracket moves in and out freely, and i cant get the lock pin to lock again, i can just pull it out. Any help?

I'm pretty sure the caliper is supposed to move in and out freely so it can adjust itself when the pads wear down. That is why those pins are supposed to have grease on them.

what about the lock pin? is it not supposed to lock? it completely pulls out with minimal effort ... im scured they may fall off when i install them!

if your talking about the top and bottom guide pin that screws into the caliper and as an assy slides smoothly in the bracket, then NO it is not supposed to hold the caliper in one spot. You only have 1 piston in the caliper, how would the pads wear if the caliper never moved?
Now the pin is supposed to tighten in the caliper itself and slide in the bracket. One pin has a rubber buching, one doesnt. It doesnt do a damn thing if you flip/flop them.

its weird tho because, in my GSX calipers i cant for the life of me take the lock pin OUT, so when i painted them, i just took one pin off and then kindaswung the braket from the caliper with the lock pin acting like a hinge.

The pin has threads on it....just liek a bolt its very common for it to become frozen. Its not uncommon for those pins to be very hard to remove especially if you are limited with tools.
