#28381, "Put on air ride! Concerning castor/camber. Please Help!"

Hey guys, I invested into air ride. Well I have 19x8.5 inch wheels. I can tuck wheel in the front. Just a little bit though. The rear I can't tuck at all cause the wheels are so wide, they will hit the wheel well (inside of the rear quarter panel) My question is: Is there anyway to get my car slammed on the ground with this size wheel? I know I have seen Eclipse's back in the day with 19's and even 20's tuckin wheel. Maybe a castor/camber kit? If that's the case I have no idea about what castor/camber kits are good out there. ANY info on this matter would be much appreciated and Points will be left. I need to get this air ride together pretty soon, cause I have to get my car in a storage unit pretty soon. Thanks everyone! emoji

I suppose you could get a camber kit and set it up for alot of negetive camber and that would pull the top of the wheel in, but it would look like total crap. I'd suggest buying a different offset wheel or a slightly narrower wheel. Actully I'd suggest not even putting that crap they call air ride on but to each his own I guess. Sorry if I'm not much help.

Yeah bro, you can get those adjustable camber kits almost anywhere. Jegs, summit, friggin ebay. Get either the ingalls kit, or the spc kits are a bit better for the front if you need that. I think you said only the rear was necesary. I'm actually watching an item on ebay that ends today that has both rear kits for sale for like $50 minus shipping. They are SPC kits. Most shops wil charge you close to $50 or more a side. Install is pretty easy. The rear kits are the same between ingalls and spc, but the fronts are better with SPC because it replaces the whole ball joints which otherwise it's harder to adjust fully.

The big problem your gonna have is finding a kit that will give you more negative camber on the back for when you drop the car to get it to tuck. Most kits are designed to correct camber, not make it worse. So you might have a hard time finding akit to give you more than .75 deg negative.

Buy it now for the rear on ebay is like 54.99 with 15 for shipping, here's the link ends in 3 hours. Note, it will only adjust -.75 degrees !!!!

last thing I forgot to mention, you do realize that this is going to chew your expensive tires away a lot quicker. I'm sure your aware that when the whole tire isn't touching evenly it stresses and wares more on the focused area rather than distributing it across the whole width of that tire. I'm assuming your doing this for a show car, and you store it, so you pry don't drive it too much.

Would rolling the fenders give the wheels enough room to tuck?

Try this link:

http://www.bmwdiy.info/fender-rolling/

It's about rolling fenders. It all depends how bad he's rubbing. It sounds like he's slamming the car to the floor for fun and he has pretty wide wheels for the car, so I don't think this will be enough. I'm actually surprised he's not going to be hitting the control arm inside the wheel well. Well, I'm sure someone's done it before, so it probably can be done. You might have to explore a few options at the same time. Try consulting a high end customizing shop to see what they have to say. Pik their brain and act like your gonna want them to do it, then see how tough it is to do and diy.

wheels too wide.
fender rolling might help but its probably not going to be enough with those wide wheels.

and a camber kit IS NOT the way to fix this problem.
getting narrower rims and a different offset is the right way.

ok I see what u guys are saying. I called this rim company and asked them about the whole fitment problem. The guy told me I could go with a 20x8.5 inch wheel with a +45 offset. Like I said, I currently have the 19x8.5 inch wheel with a +35 offset. He said the higher the offset the more the wheel will sit into the wheel well. He said I should be able to tuck the rear without a problem. I was still thinking though, regaurdless of that higher offset on those wheels, it is still a 8.5 inch wide wheel so I am trying to understand how that would work?? I know John with the extreme eclipse has I believe 19x9.5 or 19x10, something crazy like that. John, if you are reading this, let me know any info that might help me. I don't want to sell the rims I have now, buy the new wheels, and run into the same problem I currently have.
SPECS:

I have:

ADR Cypher 19x8.5 inch rims with a +35 offset
BF Goodrich Scorchers 235/35/19 inch tires

I want:

Divinchi Style Lock 20x8.5 inch rims with a +45 offset
I believe he said Nitto Xtreme 555's 225/35/20 inch tires.

Any help is much appreciated. thank you.

~John

u have to first understand that john and myself have widebody kits so before i glassed the rear quarters i cut out the stock metal so it would clear. u could roll the fenders to see if that would help. also depending how much room u have behind the wheel u could get a machine shop to machine the back pad dwn to make the wheel sit closer to the frame, i know truck guys who do this to get 24s on a fullsize and get it to lay frame. id be careful and make sure u have someone who knows what they are doing when u measure and get a machine shop that is respectable. it can be done but i wouldnt take off too much. doing that and rolling the fenders u should be able to do it. i have seen guys with 19x8.5 your offset is just too much.

cylinders are okay if u get accumulators. air struts very good. if you want the adjustability save the money and go with the air struts well worth the extra 3 or 4 hundred.
