#27807, "New Ball Joints for Alignment?"
Aug-21-05 10:36 AM by totaleclipse_05

ok i was going to get my car aligned and i only had a rear camber kit so far and the place that was going to do the alignment said i need a front camber kit also. BTW i have sportlines and tokico hp shocks. Ok a front camber kit is fine so my dad tells them to order it. The guy my dad is dealing with says he did some research and it turns out that they need to replace the ball joints also because my car had been lowered. So now my 75-80 dollar alignment now has turned into a 3-4 hundred dollar project according to them. i told my dad that i dont need the ball joints and to just get a front camber kit and do the alignment, but he said he trusts this guy cause he knows him well. do i really need to get new ball joints or is this guy just tryin to make more money on me?

i've never heard that before. You wouldn't need them unless they were worn out of spec. Lowering your car has nothing to do with when they need replaced.

Where are they getting the camber kit? ^^^^ is right, you should'nt need ball joints unless their worn out and by the way it sounds he might be trying to make some money- " I did a little research and it turns out you need new ball joints" I could see if he checked them before he aligned it as any good mechanic should then tell you that you need ball joints and a camber kit, but saying you need a camber kit then ball joints to make the camber kit work does'nt sound right unless their worn. And where are you getting it alinged that it costs 70-80$, most places do it for around 50$.
