Alright my rear drum brakes have been squealing anytime the car is rolling slowly. Been doing this since I bought the car brand new. It's become annoying now. Only about 20% wear on the shoes, 80k miles on them.

I went to replace the shoes with cheap organic pads and found out theres an e-brake bracket that won't come off, and doesn't come with the new pads. Should I go find different pads that include this bracket, or is there a way to get this damn round clip off?



I keep shaving metal off it every time I try to pry it off. It doesn't seem like it's made to bend either.

ok, i'm not sure on your current status Dan, but do you still own the 99' 420a? for some reason i thought you sold all your DSMs including the 1.8. Anyway, i've never seen a shoe come with a bracket like that, seems like it definitely should come off. I say drill that bolt out!

The clip will come off, they make a tool for it but I doubt you have one anyway so just use a small flathead screwdriver.

that clip probably took up more of my install time than everything else combined. it's a bitch to get off and a bitch to put on. just keep prying and cursing at it. after a couple hours you'll get it...

and as far as i know there are no bads that come with the bracket. you'd hafta buy a new one from the dealer.

Thanks for the help guys. The solution was to step on the shoe, insert a flathead from the top of the shoe, and pry it up halfway (bending the clip apart). Then used 2 screwdrivers prying from the side of the shoe to push the ends all the way off the pin. Then the pin had to be driven out of the hole, and into the new shoe, which deformed it nicely.

96rst- I have my original 99RS which is mostly back to stock and for sale, and a 95 Talon project/beater. All the turbos are gone.
