#25583, "stock 14 rs rims and how big brakes can fit"

ok this a real quick question i need to know what is the maximum size disc brake that will fit in the stock 14" rims on a rs. the reason why is cause im getting rid of a pair of mine to a friend who drives new body style tiburon for slicks and they have the same bolt pattern as ours but i think his front brakes are bigger. i was looking at mine last night and i was thinking maybe a 9" disc could fit the only problem i could see was the caliper squeezing in. if someone could answer this i would really appericate. thanks in advance.

1) measure the inside of the wheel (value A)

2) measure caliper width up to where it touches the rotor (value B)

3) measure the rotor (value C)

if B+C<A then no dice

if B+C>A then she should fit IMO

You could always just try since your taking it off anyways, worst thing that could happen is it won't fit.

'95 GSX - Big16G ~ Leaks, but atleast it runs.

Anything bigger than a stock 2GNT rotor will not work. I remember when I had my 14" alloys and looking at the clearance of the assembly. Between the caliper and inside of the 14" alloy, there was maybe a 1/4" to 3/8" where I could maybe get my finger tip in there.

If you are on 14" steelies the clearance might be different.

But seriously, if you are still on 14"s, money can be better spent elsewhere than on upgrading brake size at this point. My 0.02.

no im on 14's that came i believe 97 on up, thanks for the replies, and no this wasnt a mod for me, im selling these to a friend, so he can use them for slicks, but he has a tiburon. they have the same bolt patterns and offset so i just wanted to make sure they would fit over his rotors before i shipped them. i had him measure his and they will fit about as much as our stock brakes do. as for mods im fixing my suspension then ill be going turbo by fall 2005, didnt want to go buying a bunch of bolt ons for no real power gain. but thanks again for the help.
