I've recently become really interested in air bags and I think I'm willing to save up an arm and a leg to get some, but I just want to know where I can find some good info on them on the web. Also, if anyone knows about them first hand or has some, I'd appreciate some info about them...

*I've heard the ride wasn't that good, but then I've heard from others that the ride was better than coilovers :-/

*How much would I be spending for a setup, including installation?

*How reliable are they?

*What would be everything I'd need to buy?

i work part time at fab koncepz where airbags are more common than air fresheners at auto zone. here's the lowdown:

*I've heard the ride wasn't that good, but then I've heard from others that the ride was better than coilovers :

- the ride is FAR FAR better than a hydraulic setup, my boss (thom) compares them to the suspension of a cadillac. matter of fact it's actually closer to the ride of a tractor trailer cab. they kinda float over bumps unless you are slammed. i would go as far as to say the air bags are a much better ride than coilovers or even lowering springs IF you are riding at a reasonable height.

*How much would I be spending for a setup, including installation?

-we install airbags on import cars for about $1800-$2000 including everything.

*How reliable are they?

-honestly, if you are looking for reliability, go with hydro's. hydraulic setups are completely rebuildable, matter of fact my friend blew the motor on his left front wheel last night at the blvd, and it's already rebuilt, it cost $90. GET A RESPECTABLE SHOP TO INSTALL THEM... airbags tend to get leaks, and depending on who's doing the setup, you have to worry about metal hitting the bag (causing it to pop) almost everyone that i know with airbags has at least one story (some worse than others). i've personally seen a tacoma lose a bag mid turn, and actually crash his fender, bumper, wheel on the right hand side.

*What would be everything I'd need to buy?

-bring it to a shop who knows what they are doing. don't even attempt the install yourself. there ALOT of fabrication needed. I mean, you could probably do it yourself, BUT you wouldn't be able to drop it as low as say if Fab Koncepz (plug) did. Thom makes sure the vehicle (no matter what type it is) can sit about .5" from laying frame. we've got a jeep wrangler with a nissan 300zx suspension in the rear, and some kind of custom double wishbone suspension in the front, bagged, it sits about 1.5" inches from the ground, and that's without any type of bodykit or molding.

we are located in syracuse new york, and we have people ship cars from all over america to be worked on.
