Hi, my front passenger side suspension is making a slapping noise everytime i hit a bump and it bumps harder than is should. Ive been having this problem for awhile. I recently replaced my cv boot, outer tie rod and control arm but this didnt help. I really have no idea of what it could be. Would a bad CV joint do this? I think the boot was torn from the previous owner. Any help would be appreciated. -Brian

check the sway bar bushing, they crack easily and cause the sway bar to hit the subframe

The sway bar is the same as the stabilizer bar right? I noticed it also does it when I shift and when i hit bumps also.

yes the cv joint could also make that noise...like you said even when shifting taking load off cvj then putting load back on it.And who knows how long the guy drove it while it was torn.But like said above it could be other stuff also...bushing bad strut ect ect.

if it would be the CV is it safe to drive?

I never had one break on me.... but I did drive around on a few bad ones for awhile before I could replace them...I can't tell you its safe to drive because I don't really know how bad it is or if it's even the cvj But if you decide to drive it I'd say baby it till you get it fixed.My friend told me when his broke it screwed up shit in his engine bay.I'd say find out if thats it then make your trip to auto zone and fix it asap.

Hey, I wont have a chance to look at my suspension again untill friday but I noticed it does it alot more when im going uphill than when Im on a flat or down hill road. If it was the CV it would make a constant clicking noise everytime I turn, correct? It will clunk when I turn but only if i hit a bump. Can anyone help me narrow it down further with this info?

This may sound like a really stupid idea but I figured it was worth bringing up. I am fairly new to suspension work so cut me a break for this question. When I have my sway bar off to inspect the bushings, would it be a reasonable idea to take the car for a drive around the neighborhood without it on to see if thats what is making the noise? I havent even looked at it yet so Im not sure if its holdin anything on or what not. Im sure its a dumb question but I just figured I would ask incase it would work.

You can do that to see if the problem still exists, or if is then absent without the bar. You will notice considerable more body roll in turns however. Do not be reckless and take high speed turns and it is fine. It will not damage anything.
