If anyone can give me helpful advice on removing the fucking stubborn drum brakes (150k, guessing they've never been touched), they get puntos! I found bolts, but the bolts gave before the drum did. I tried beating the fuck out of it with a rubber mallet, ,and soaking it in PB Blaster, nothing. I took to it with a real hammer, nothing. i pried back the little metal shield, took a crowbar and a real hammer, hooked on to it and beat on the crowbar to somehow knock the rotor off, they will NOT budge!has anyone come up with anything to get these off? I have dealt with some stubborn drums like that, never enjoyed it at all. Best thing i can tell ya is throw the rubber mallet away its useless. Go to home depot and get a blacksmith hammer, looks like a small sledge with a real heavy head. Beat the drum in a criscross pattern till it comes off. dont be afraid to break it, you really have no choice but to work it hard. Letting it soak overnight sometimes does it. I had a honda come into the shop one time, owners friend. Busted the rear lugs getting the rim off and could not get the drum off at all. (didnt have the hammer i have now) I soaked it in PB all night and the daytime guy came in and they popped right off no problems.
On my 96 i have to give the drums two real good wacks to get them off, even if they were removed 6 months ago.
If you have a torch or at cheapest you could try Mapp gas handheld torch to heat the hub/drum up a little but i would not go buy the equipment if you dont have it, if you do then what could it hurt?

ha, i figured it out by just taking it apart at the rear, but now i can't get the fucking brake lines loose, they're just slowly rounding down (great). Jon

thats your problem dont use a reg wrench tonight, go to autozone and buy a cheap set of line wrenches, you wont have problems like that on brake lines and fuel lines ect.

Yep i rounded off a few of them as well. I got several sets or rear discs for board members and friends. They are a pain to get off but yeah take some visegrips to it and they should work. I think i can get one more set of rear discs if you are lookin for em.

i'm not there now, but i might go this afternoon.
Do those clips come off (the one along the wheelwell) before you take the line off? I tried a small pair of vicegrips and they slipped as well but i might not have had them tight enough. Jon

the clips retaining the brake line should come off... i believe they're bolted to the car or something if i remember correctly. drum brakes are a PITA to work with. especially when they changed parts mid 95 and all the parts you need are secretly listed under a 94 eclipse. FAWK!
once you figure out how everything goes together it's not that bad. the clip holding the pin (connecting the ebrake line) on the brake shoe is a PITA to get off and put on. idk if there's a special tool for that.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related. Step 1: Put down everything in your hands. Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it. Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
