#2477, "What size tire on 17x7 wheel?"

What size tire can I put on a wheel that is 17x7? Currently I have 205/40 but I don't like them one bit anymore (steel belts in the side wall broke on 2 different tires). So I'm thinking about getting new tires. Any suggestions on the size make and brand?

I have Nitto NT450 215/45/17's. They're nice. Haven't had them too long, and haven't done alot of "performance" driving i guess, so i can't tell you how they hold up in the long run.

So 215s don't have any problem on a wheel with a width of 7"?

Nope 215 recommended wheel widths are 7 to 8 inches. You should be able to go to a 225 on a 7"

I used this same size, 225x45

I really like the BFGoodrich Euro T/a's they are H-rated and are around $130 a peice. I hate 40 series tires on our cars, I dont think they look too good and the ride quality isnt the same. I had 205x40 yokohama's before, plus you have a better chance of bending a rim (i did) or getting side wall damage. 45 series look good, our cars were ment to have beef on the sidewall.

For a few extra bucks go with the Brodgestone Potenza RE730 I just got 215/45ZR-17 for $134 a piece at Tire Rack. Z rated and outstanding traction!

Ive got Summitomo HTRZ 2 225/45/17 from tirerack.com
they were cheap I think $106 a piece, I autocross with them and I didn't have a single problem with them... They dont rub anytime, they have a cool tread pattern and a tread rating of 220(which Im pretty sure is good)

I have 17x7.5 Niches with 225/45 17 Kumho Supra's ($101 from tirerack.com) with a 1.3" drop and they rubbed in the rear. I had to "massage" the rear fenders to correct it. One thing to remember is if you correct your rear camber the clearance for (bigger)tires diminishes. I corrected my rear camber cause it wore out my last Nitto's way too premature on the inside from rims being tucked in at such a hard camber angle.
It seems everybody likes swears by their tires...thats kewl.. the Kumho ECSTA Supra's have a huge channel in the center for awesome wet driving, a AA traction rating, A temp, etc. Great reviews on tirerack.com, plus their the cheapest. Better than my Nitto Extreme's by far, just my 2 cents....
