#24688, "strut bars, sway bars, lower tie bars, etc = I'm confused, help!"

I'm going to be putting on some Tokico HP struts and want to do a little more for handling so I wanted to pick up some strut/sway/tower/whatevertheircalled bars. After searching for which kind to buy I'm really confused. What 2 make the most difference? I only want to spend money on 2 so far so which ones should I get? I've read their 8 bars total that you can add.

Also any recommendations on brands and where to buy?

How are the ones on ebay?

Front upper strut bar is in your engine bay.
Rear upper strut bar is in your behind your seat inside the car.
Front Tie Brace is under your car between the tire sorta. Mine is about 1 inch from the ground.
Rear Lower Tie Brace is under your car between the rear tires.
Sway bars go where your swaybars already are. They are just thicker and stronger.

Get them all!

with ebay you get what you pay for!
just keep in mind that inorder to do their job right the should be SOLID! dont be fooled by the light weight hollow bars THEY WILL FLEX! adjustable bars will flex more then welded bars, but are easier to install and much cheeper.

if you only want two, get the front and rear upper. These help the most in the beginning and provide a stable platform to build on later.
after these go with the rear lower then front lower. after these you start getting into the exotics like firewall braces and chassis braces, however if you plan to do real racing a good cage will stiffen better than most any brace will.

hope this helps, if you have any more questions just hit me up

well each one one of those bars serves a different purpose

Sway bars= stiffen your suspension arms up to prevent body roll, so by preventing body roll your car has better grip and resposne.

Strut Tower bars= stiffens your chassis up, the chassis is shapped like a U so if you put a bar tieing both towers up it prevent them from bending and flexing.

Tie bars= Tie bars stiffen up your framed suspension like crossmembers and such. It'll keep them from bending.

The ones I noticed make the biggest difference are tie bars and sway bars. tie bars help your car take off because it shift the weight faster. Sway bars like I said will make your car roll less which is good emoji

Little late but what the hey... If you are gonna do anything to your car, do it right the first time. Spend a little extra and buy the uppers first. If you buy cheap, you will end up replacing them later on if you plan on doing any serious building. If most of you fun is in light to light then yes, do E-bay. If the winding roads at 80+ is a passion like it is for me, then get good solid components. With the 2GNT being a FWD I would get that one first since most of the weight transfer happens at the front end on cornering. Brace that one then the rear. The same way for the frt and rear lowers. Then get the chassis brace for the mid section. Goes behind the Drvr/Pass seats on the floor. Those 5 alone will stiffen up your car enough to run in the SCCA Amateur Rallys and not be too far behind. (Unless you are an accopmlished driver). of course this is all opinion and they are like assholes. Everyone has one and usually they all stink!

So now at 44 what the hell do I do?

Sway bars. I know you probably won't find them for $80 like you want, and they are one of the hardest to install, but thoes make a world of diffrence. The car corners very well with the suspension techniques front and rear bars with the Tokico Illumnia's set at 3 all around on the factory 14's. Def. worth the time and effort.

Now with the strut bars I'm sure you will notice a diffrence with maybe a bit less wheel hop and such, but overall, just upper tower bars won't do a whole lot. But like they said, build yourself a good platform that you can improve on. If thats all you have for now, get the tower bars and other chassis stiffing devices and I assure you, you will be happy.

How did you manage to successfully turbo your car? Do you have any clue what's going on? This was the most painful thing I've read on this forum today. Thanks, now I have to find my meds.

Read this book and call back in the morning when you have some remote idea as to what you're doing:

wheelie bars don't count.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
