#23541, "VR-4 brake upgrade question"

ok let me get this strait:
gsx = 3kgt SL right?
SL + bracket = VR-4 ?
so i can add the bracket for the 3kgt and use VR-v brakes right?

so does this mean i can also use the "big brake" kits for the VR-4 plus the bracket for the SL? (ie Brembo gran turismo)

also with all that braking force, is there a risk of sheering that bracket off with these larger brakes?

thanks in advance

This info applies to Front brakes only:

10" ROTOR:
1G GST = 1G GSX 90-92.5 = 2GNT = 2G GST

10.75" "big brake" ROTOR (Requires AWD mounting bracket if retrofitting):
2G GSX "big brake" = 3000gt SL = Diamante = Galant VR4 = 3G v6 = 93-94 GSX

2G GSX pad:
---

3000gt VR4 is a totally different brake system, that is completely unusable on a 2g with any amount of modification. It is a 4 piston RIGID system, instead of a 1-2 piston floating caliper like we have. You would have to build a completely new hub assembly for your car, and replace all the brake components.
11.2" Rotor: 91-93 3kGT vr4/awd
11.6" Rotor: 94 3kGT vr4/awd

3000GT VR4 pad:

You would have better luck fitting calipers from a Ford Expedition than from a 3000gt VR4 IMO.

JadedSilver at ASOG had a group buy where he's looking to fabricate similar brackets for more of us.

I'm sorry, but its just not worth it, even if you somehow got the calipers and rotors for free. The offset is wrong, the hydraulics are wrong, and the mounting is wrong. Sure everythings fixable with enough fabrication and money... but they make BADASS aftermarket brake systems for OUR car (wilwood and stoptech) that work better, and cost less than crustomizing something like this.

Saying this swap might work is like saying a 4g63 swap might work. Even if it is possible, look at all the trouble and confusion people have had just figuring out how to mount GSX calipers on a GS.

From the avenger board:

....leaves .8" of needed backspacing DAAAAMN!

"Yea.. too much offset will turn the lower lateral joint into a weak point.. not that it isn't already.. it already takes all the force of holding the suspension up.

unfortunately i think i'm just gonna call it quits on this project with the vr4 fronts. the only reason is cost. $250 needed for hats, $260 needed for Wilwood rings, and i still have to machine adapters...........it's just too much of a headache

Show me a car with a 3000GT VR4 conversion that

1) Stops better than stock
2) Has survived 5000 miles of use

and I will shut the emoji up and buy you a drink.

aren't most (if not all) aftermarket brake systems floating caliper anyway?
as far as the hydraulics goes, you just need to change the end that goes to the caliper.

i guess i wasent clear in my question of using the bracket for VR-4 aftermarket setups.
since there is alot of hassel to retrofit the stock VR-4 brakes to our cars, i thought this might be simpler.
