ok, when i took apart the front passenger suspension again today i noticed the strut wasnt mounted firmly in the lower fork and had slipped down and was resting on the axle, (i dont know the exact name for that accordian-style rubber boot directly below the strut) well it had obviously been slamming down on the axle i guess because the strut was all greasy and black, and on the bottom of the strut there was this greenish-yellow slime hanging from it. what fluid/lubricant is this that is on there? anyone know? i assume the strut busted something and caused a leak but i dont know what it is, how badly damaged it is, or how dangerous it is, but the car still rides fine. only thing i have noticed is the slightest clicking from that front CV joint. (is that the CV joint i was talking about???) someone fill me in

okay....let me see. i was thinking maybe it was the grease that's packed in your cv joint but that's like a blackish-grey color. is the fluid coming from your strut. cause tht's what strut fluid looks like(i should know after busting a set). you said your cv joint clicks. is it a clanking noise you can here when you first start driving and in turns??? if so the pressure fron the strut coming down on the axle could've burned up your bearings in you cv joint and that would require a new cv joint (pretty easy installation) let me know what else you find out

well the stuff is coming from the joint i think, who knows it could be from the strut, but the largest collection of it was hanging from the bottom of the strut so i dont think it is strut fluid. so i can change the joints myself i guess, anyone have a walkthrough for this? and how much are the OEM replacement CVJ's?

i don't know of a wlak thru but i'll try to help you out. here we go:
1. jack car 2. take wheel off 3. use an impact wrench(trust me!) and remove the nut that is in the center of the rotor(it's 23mm) 4. unbolt your upper control arm from that bow-shaped thing(real technical, huh?) unbolt the wishbone thingy that joins the strut and lower control arm, it needs to come completely out to remove the cv shaft. 5. pull on the brake caliper so you turn the forward part of the rotor outward(also helps to turn your steering wheel to the left, i'm not sure how far so try different degrees) 6. now here's the tricky part. pull on the cv joint shaft so you bend it toward you while pulling outward on the brake caliper. the point of this is to get the shaft which had the 23mm nut on it out of the wheel hub.prying with screwdriver may be necessary. 7. now, go under the car where it mounts to the tranny and pry up against the tranny and cv joint to try to pop it out. 8. the end. to install do an exact reverse putting the tranny end in first and then the hub part.
you can get a remanufactured cv joint at carquest for about 80 bucks and you just turn in your core. hope this helps and good luck young grasshoppa! your journey awaits you! haha!
