#22652, "Messed up my friends car.. I think its bad.. Help"

I never knew how to drive stick right. So the other day my friend was like you wanna try driving stick? So I get in the drivers seat of his Jetta and I was doing it like I been doin it all my life. I started to get a little cocky and I was goin around this court in the development... I popped it in 2nd and slammed the gas coming out the the court.. It was wet out which wasnt smart and I lost control... I was able to slow down to 15mph then I went up a curb. There is no damage to the rest of the car just bent one of the rims which was a stock steely. Could this have potentially fucked up anything else on the car? His check engine light is on now too. He will not let me pay for whatever damage there is but I'm curious on what else could potentially be wrong.

Thanks

Mike

Most codes for check engine lights are small things, like emissions crap and the like. Just have Autozone or someplace pull the code and see what it says. Maybe you just knocked a sensor loose.

You may of bent a control arm to. After he gets a new wheel on make sure he takes it to get aligned. If they can't align it they will let you know what's bent.

It's probably the DBTW sensor. It tells the owner that there had been a Dipshit Behind The Wheel. emoji First day driving stick, especially in someone else's car, is not the time to play Spilner man. emoji You're lucky your friend's cool about it. If it were my car, you'd have lost your voice from screaming for help so long by now...

Wouldn't that be playing Jesse since he was in a Jetta?

that's exactly why I won't let anybody other than my parents drive my car.... you are so lucky, VW parts aren't as "low cost" as ours.

If a friend did that to my car, well, the term friend would quickly disappear... and bodily damage will quickly appear... same with a huge bill. (I also love my car)

You may of bent a control arm...

How much does it cost to fix if it is, and how often does this happen to people. Is there anyway you can tell cosmetically?

It happens quite often on curbed cars. Especially w/ strong wheels. It's only visable if it's badly bent. Get a new wheel, put it on, take the car to get aligned, they'll let you know if anything else is wrong.

And yes, have autozone check the codes, it's possibly the ABS was damaged.
