Ok so I am a real newbie when it comes to brakes. My car had been vibrating bad, and I was going to replace my outter driver side tie rod (still cant get the damn thing outta the hole, so if you have any suggestions, speak up). Well, I noticed my rotor was a little loose?!??! How? That I dont know. I took off the two bolts that hold the caliper on, and the rotor slid right off after I removed the caliper. Is that normal? I did not hit it with a mallet or anything, it just slid right off after I took off the caliper. After I was done muffing with all of that I slid the rotor back on, tapped it with a mallet a few times, and replaced the caliper. Now the rotor is STILL loose. It wiggles when you move it with your hand. Anybody have this problem before? What exactly keeps the rotor on the hub? I know the pressure of the rim isn't suppose to keep the rotor on, is it? I really need some help with this one. I'm sure there is not a difficult solution. Thanks guys.

The rotor issues is totally normal. The wheel keeps the rotor tight against the hub. Pretty normal for a FWD car. if you are having vibration issues, is it during braking? May need to get new rotors.

awsome! thanks guys, I was really nervous about it, I thought it would be some else fucked up on my car. Well my tie rod is whats causing the vibration. I gonna have to get that damn thing out.

So basically, If my wheel is tightened all the way down, then the rotor should not budge, right? Because everytime I take the wheel off it is still loose and makes me a little nervous, I haven't driven it yet but I just want to be sure that my brakes aren't going to get damaged.

You got it. If the wheel is on, the lugs are tight, and the rotor is still moving, then you've got a problem.

haha be happy - most people have a bitch of a time getting rotors off. they're SUPPOSED to slide right off once you remove the caliper but after bein on a couple years some peoples ones get a tad rusted to the hub. major PITA.
