#21720, "GS-T Engine swap... not the same old question."

Hey guys, I've used the search function and must say you all know a ton of information, but I didn't find the exact information I was looking for.

I understand that alot of people here say that swapping to a GS-T engine is a waste or not worth the effort, but please read my question.

My mechanic is offering to do an entire engine swap on my 97 GS to a 4g64 with turbo, side mount intercooler, and swap out my tranny for $2300 TOTAL(already including labor). I expressed the views that i've read here on the forum to him, about the electrical systems and differentials and such, but he continues to proclaim that it will be no problem and that he can handle it. He has done plenty of work on import cars but this will be his first attempt at swapping a DSM engine. He says he can have the car done in a week.

My question is, should I believe him or am I just getting into a world of hurt and multiple problems? I'm not an expert on cars but even this sounds a little too good to be true to me.

Thanks,
SaneMSK

First of all, you're posting this in the wrong forum so you won't get the responses you're looking for here. It'll most likely get moved so don't worry about it.

As far as your question goes, only a couple have attempted this swap and I think only two have actually succeeded. Unless your mechanic knows something that nobody on this board knows, I think you're asking for trouble.

If you guys are thinking of nighteclipseRs forget it it wasnt sucessfull. I HAVE seen that thing in person I was there when he told me his Mechanic could do it blah blah blah.

8K later, 6 months and 4 shops. It was futile, The shell is now for sale and the thing was a waste, a perfectly good RS gone.

EXACLTY I think the Machanice doesn't nkow what he is talking about. the 1GNT you cjould doa relatively painless swap but not us. Not only are the Motor mounts different but so are the electronics and connections. Not that it cannot be done, it cannot be done for 2300 but a paid profesional. I wouldn't do myself anyway when we the 420a.
