Hey guys, I was looking at Ground Control coilovers since I've heard some pretty good reviews about them. I saw that they have a number of different part numbers, for different shocks. But I noticed that they have one designed to go with stock struts. I've done searches and the general consensus is if you go w/ aftermarket springs you should change your shocks too, or they'll blow out soon. But if a company such as GC designs their springs for a stock stut, I've got to imagine the ride quality will be halfway decent and so will their longevity. Granted they are still coilovers, but have any of you had any experience w/ GC and stock struts?

you need aftermarket struts/shocks. it doesnt matter the quality of the coilovers the struts/shocks will blow. tokico hp(blues) are great non adjustable shocks that can be had for around $250. if you want more adjustability, you can go with tokico illuminas(450-525) as well as koni(500-600). ive seen way too many kyb agx's blow out on many dsms, so i wouldnt advise on those.
as far as ground control coilovers, theyre better than your basic ebay coilover for the simple fact that they use Eibach springs, and a one wrench loostening/tightening. but they are not true coilovers(meaning that they are a separate part from the actual shock). ive heard good and bad things about ground controls. the bad complaint was that they were noisy, but then again, that guy kinda rigged them to work. Talk to Nackers on here, his girlfriend has them on her RS and she is very happy with them.
If you want a true coilover, there are many options. TEIN offers many varieties of true coilovers. Type Basic=$750 full coilover. Type SS=$900 16 point adjustable full coilover. Type flex and other top end models start at $1200 and still offer 16 points of adjustability on all 4 corners. Flex and up include upper pillowball mounts, which is a nice feature. Other companies such as Apex, JIC MAJIC also offer amazing systems, but those start at around $1700.

Chris said it all. They are great with Illumnias ImO. But if you want true coilovers, I would have to say TEIN, but you will be spending about 3-500 more on thoes.

Question, I've gotlowered springs on tokico Blues. I want coilovers, but Ground controls are cheaper than Tiens, especially when it comes time to replace them....I may have the money now to buy them, but say in a year and something happens...
So now my question, if I get the Ground Controls, and I already have the tokico Blues, what else do I need?

Dude, no one is comparing the two. However they both do the work required for however much you have to spend. If you have the $600-1000+ get the Teins. If however you don't, get GCs...Simple.

I have GC on my car with regular struts (sears brand). I cant tell you how nice they are. I would definately replace the stock struts with any new one. Your stock ones are about 4-5 years old and since you are actually taking off the springs your gonna need a spring compressor if you want to keep your stock struts. If you decide not to keep them you wont need that spring compressor you can just swap the entire unit out with the new GC units and that will save you time and maybe worth the $200 extra you spend on struts. Plus it will bring your car back to the new suspention feeling!
