So last night I gave Uber a ride home from work since he is getting fux0r'd too lately and just as I pull off the ramp to exit the freeway at my street, over the music, over the fart cannon, I hear what I think is one or both of my CVs just flopping around between the tranny and the wheel. Most god-awful noise I think I've ever heard from inside the car.

Turns out it's something to do with my brakes.

As, if it were CVs, there's no way I could've acclerated around a corner and up a hill to get home. So I didn't have time to pull the wheels to check, but looking through the little holes in the old steelies, I could see no scoring on the outside surface of the rotors and the outer pad looked fine. The only thing that looked different was that both outer pads were not making contact with the rotor. They have always done that. So I'm thinking maybe the calipers are shot and wearing the inner pads excessively or something and maybe one shattered and caused the other one to evaporate or some shit like that. :0

The sound was not your typical screeching metal on metal as is the case when the pads wear all the way down, rather this was a rapid clunking banging clamor from both wheels. Anyone kave any ideas on just how fux0r'd I am here?

I'd say a wheel bearing or cv joint is bad.

So here's what we found out when when John and I pulled off my other two threadbare wheels. I drove about 8 miles and when we pulled the wheels, the lug nuts weren't even warm yet. I used the ebrake that much!

You may be able to tell that something isn't right here.

You can see in this one where the caliper was rubbing against the inside of the wheel. You can also see up top where the fluid line was being pulled against the suspension components. Had the other bolt (which came undone without needing a wratchet) came out, I would have lost the whole caliper and probably died getting off the interstate that night. :o

Smart ass thumbs up. Check out how far off the damn thing was! No bolt to hold caliper on = teh sux0rs imo.
EDIT: It's times like these you're glad you have a parts car just sitting around. Not only were we able to get me another bolt for free, we still have 3 more!


Anyway, John's the man! He hooked me up with some semi-new rotors and metal-master pads since we're bros and now they just sort of squeal everywhere I go...



...but they work!

I feel sorta jipped... I helped work on your car, gave you free car parts, and i didnt get any beer out of it Maybe i should just be happy that your car is road worthy and you will live to see another day.
