Hey guys, I noticed a problem over the weekend. I was driving from Viriginia to Pennsylvania like I do most weekends when I hear this kinda faint screeching sound coming from the drivers side rear wheel area during normal interstate driving (about 75mph). So I let off the gas and lightly hit the brakes and the noise goes away. So I'm thinking all is well and then I hit a small pothole and the noise comes back. Hit the brakes again and the noise goes away. Rinse and repeat every 10-15 miles. Now, I have not noticed this noise during city driving (driving under 60mph) nor under any braking. It also squeaks/grinds after the car has not been moved for a couple hours. I'm not sure how to best describe the noise, but it is a steady tone like metal on metal. I haven't pulled the wheel off the car yet, but I did look at the pads/rotor. The pads dont have much meat on them at all and the rotor has some faint marks on it (no deep gorges or anything). I've put about 31k miles on the car myself in the past 15 months and have not changed the brakes since I've owned it. The car has a total of 73k miles on it now. Any ideas what the problem might be? I believe it's your wheel bearing going bad.

I hope you're wrong but thanks for the quick reply ... really dont have the money for new brakes and friggin wheel bearing . If it is the wheel bearing, what could happen if I dont fix it right away? What are the signs of a bad wheel bearing? How could I diagnose this?

check your brake pads. mine did that but it was pretty loud. if your pads are low enuf the squeaker pin will rub on the rotor creating a horrible noise that you can make dissapear by pushing on the brakes.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

could be brakes could be bearing. brakes would grind when you push on them. bearing would do it constantly.

raise the car up (the affected corner) and try to shake the wheel back and fourth (push/pull kinda thing) if it moves===>bearing. if it is the bearing FIX IT NOW!!! your wheel could come off! not just the wheel, but brake system too... that wouldn't be cool:nono
