#20829, "How much do slicks really help"

If you have a stage 2 star kit with a built bottom end how much time would you know off compared to if you were on street tires? Also is running slicks on the track just like if you had awd on the street or not?And whats the differences between drag radials and slicks?

1. .5 seconds off your 60 foot time(approx.)

2. If you have a suspension setup that minimizes weight transition when launching, minimal negative camber and traction from both wheels then slicks can be pretty close to an awd with street tires.

3. Treadwear rating is the difference. Or basically how sticky the compound is. And slicks have VERY soft sidewalls. Autocross racing tires(50 treadwear) can be pretty darn good for drag and handle great on the street. Better have a good alignment and minimize the burnouts if you want more than 8K miles on a set though.

ya what he said^^^. also how big can you go w/ DR's? my car's got 12.5" rotors up front so it'll prolly never see slicks... (17"+ required) are DR's a viable alternative?

if you have slicks and the right suspension u can launch almost like your awd. Most def a must have when your putting out big power.

What rpm would be best to launch at with slicks? I know allot of awd guys launch around 5k-6k.

he answered that in his post; approx. .5. if you are running a 13.9 now, you could theoretically drop down to a 13.4 with slicks.

They wont help that much if your snapping axles. If your putting down big power, then your gonna need DSS axles, not stock b/c they will snap. They may last a few runs but they will eventually snap. But like they said above, it will know off some tenths off your time and 60ft. Use drag radials until your running higher numbers on higher boost. I am running 15 inch 2003 stock eclipse wheels on 205/50/15 BFG drag radials. Track closed here so i havent made a pass yet.
