I am going to replace the front passenger side compression arm on my 98 GS. The ball joint is shot. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this and had any tips for me. It looks pretty east to do. The compression arm is the curved control arm that runs from the bottom of the knuckle back to the frame of the car, not the lateral control arm that comes out perpendicular to the wheel. It looks like I just have to take 2 bolts off of one end of the arm, and then take the ball joint out of the knuckle. I rented the pickle forks from Napa for the ball joint. I work at Dana, and I am going to go into work tonight to put the car on the lift to do the repair.

i just got the same one replaced 2 days ago. passenger side also. the 2 screws on the chassis is pretty much straight foward. the balljoint part might be a lil tougher. if its stuck, just bang it out with a hammer from the side, not banging on the arm itself but the, i guess the hub (dunno correct term) where it goes through. that should loosen it. becareful when it comes out, the damn arm is pretty heavy for its size. one question, you re replacing the whole arm right? you can't just take out the balljoint itself or can you? reguardless, i was told the joint and arm is one unit and so, i had the whole thing replaced.

I actually had no problems at all. The nut was almost finger loose on the ball joint. It only took 3-4 hits with a hammer on a pickle fork to break the ball joints loose. I replaced the arm and a front wheel stud, and had the car off the lift in about 45 minutes.

You work at Dana? Make us a set of heavy duty u-joint axles with a 2.5" slip joint at the hub side. Something with Dana 40-like strength, for the 2gnt. Please?

I work in the axle testing lab. We don't have the parts or the equipment to make anything like that here. There is a plant next door though. I don't have any connections over there yet, but if I can ever work something out I will let you know. Also if you are serious about this send me some more specs of what you want.
