#19212, "Strut Locking Nut"

So I am trying to install my Skunk2 coilovers and I get the rear driver's side strut assembly out no problem. Now here is the problem... I put the vice grips on the little flat piece at the end of the bolt and tried to get the nut off. After struggling forever...the little flat tab broke off. So how am I supposed to get this damn nut off? I need to keep the strut so I don't want to damage it, but once you get the assembly broke down can the bolt be replaced? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Here is a pic showing what I am talking about. Thanx

Keepin it clean!!

Use an impact wrench w/ a 6 sided deepwell 14mm socket, take it to AutoZone or somewhere if you don't have air tools.

Or, put a cloth around somewhere in the middle of the strut piston, and vice grip it.

You can use your garage floor as a wedge so you don't need 2 people.

yea, go to advanced auto and pick up a spring compressor, teh manual adjusting ones for like 30 bucks, and then vice grip the strut rod in between teh springs and turn it. I had to do that, but i didnt use a cloth cause i didnt care for the stock ones since i put in new ones.
