#18290, "Will the Powerslot rotors for a GSX fit my RS or do I have to do a conversion?"

Just wondering if I can just by the rotors from RRE and not have to get the "factory big brake" upgrade. From what I understood, u cannot. The factory upgrade is kinda steep tho. Any other suggestions? How bout the AEM big brake kit from RRE? I heard they cracked. Is this true?

dude. yah, you need the gsx calipers for the gsx rotors. if i where you just look around 'junkyards' and buy the 95-99awd front calipers/brakets etc and they sell them cheap. then just go buy some powerslot rotors from RRE or i can ask my friend how much he can get them for ( he got my powerslots for a little cheaper then RRE). and get some new pads. i think you can save 25-85 bucks if you get good prices all around.

ya you need to buy gsx calipers. they sell 'em at checkers for like $60 a piece (plus core charge). i like my AEM's. they're 12.5". that's really really big. you need 17" rims or bigger. our stock brakes kinda suck so this upgrade makes a huge difference. i bought my AEM rotors from RRE as well as some metal master pads and SS brake lines. i got ripped off buying calipers from them though. paid way too much. do your self a favor and get 'em at a junkyard or some parts store like checkers or autozone or somethin. good luck with the upgrade! emoji

Hey Mike, if u can hook me up with the rotors, please do. I think my rotors are damaged. (from what mechanics have been telling me) They said my brakepads were out and that it was hitting metal to metal already and that my rotors were damaged. Its weird tho, I know I just changed my pads around last year. Its just that I don't have the money yet to replace it. I'll prolly get paid in a few weeks. What junkyards are nearby?

Hey Mcubed, do u have to replace the calipers too with the AEM or was that just what u wanted?

Okay just to clear this up, but is the hub from the fwd the same as the one from the awd gsx? this is for fitment issues with rotors.

Yes, they're the same. Or at least, if there are any differences, it won't effect any fitament issues with regard to the rotors.

>Hey Mcubed, do u have to replace the calipers too with the AEM
>or was that just what u wanted?

no you do not. if you notice, there are two separate kits they sell for the front discs of the 2G eclipse. the FWD and the AWD. the FWD version is still a big brake kit. it upgrades the stock rotors size on the RS/GS/GST from the stock 10" to 11.75" with the AEM rotors. the AWD kit upgrades the GSX rotors from 10.75" to 12.5". in order to use the AWD kit you NEED GSX calipers. you don't need GSX rotors b/c you'll be replacing them with the AEM rotors. if you want to keep your stock RS/GS/GST single piston calipers you can still buy the AEM rotors. i believe if you get the AEM FWD kit you can get buy with 16" rims rather than 17" as with the AWD kit.

anymore questions - hit me up. i'm really happy with my upgrade. wish i hadn't bought the calipers from RRE but i was in a rush being that my brakes were at the point where i didn't want to drive my car. haven't had any problems and it's been more than 6 months. damn they look nice! (sorry no pics) they really fill up my rims. the only thing that sucks is that when i wash my car i need to clean as much of the rim as i can and then roll the car foward about a foot so i can get the rest of the rim that was blocked by the caliper. it's a pretty snug fit with 17's...

oh and for the question about the hub, if you get larger rotors (even if you keep your stock calipers) you will need the trim the dust shield a bit so it doesn't rub the larger rotor. not a big deal.

Ok, this may sound dumb, but why will they not fit? I'm just making assumptions here, since on Mcubed's post, it said stock GSX rotors are 10.75, while the AEM is like an inch larger. So why won't the GSX rotors fit while the AEM ones do with stock calipers?

the AEM rotors are a big brake upgrade KIT. meaning they come with an over-sized rotors and caliper relocation brackets. the reason these very large rotors fit with stock calipers is that the caliper gets relocated about an inch farther out. this is true for both the FWD and AWD AEM kit. if you do not purchase a kit with the relocation bracket you must use the according stock rotor sizes. if you have RS/GS/GST calipers you need a 10" rotor. if you have GSX calipers you need a 10.75" rotor.

here's the link off of RRE's site with the info on the AEM upgrade.
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/parts/aem/brakeinfo.htm

with other aftermarket upgrade kits, you replace the caliper with a caliper included in the kit. the new caliper allows the larger rotor included in the kit to fit.

hope that clears things up.
