Two summers ago I took my car into Satan for brakes. $1200 (yea parents insisted on paying Mitsu to do it) and 4 new rotors and pads later brakes were great. Now, again, my wheel is shaking like a paint-can mixer when I brake doing 60mph or faster. Warped rotors? I think so. The parents want me to take it back to Mitsu to do the whole thing again. I'm thinking of taking the $XXX I'll (yea I'm paying for it this time) drop there and get some badass big brakes.

First off, If I get some sort of big brake upgrade, will the rotors warp like the OEM? If I'm gonna drop hundreds of bucks on brakes, I want them to last until I get rid of the car, if that's possible. Secondly, I don't have 2 grand to spend on Brembos, but I would like something nice that provides a good amount of stopping power. I recently saw Jamesman's new brakes and I was drooling. What's the best (or couple of the best) bang/bangs for the bucks out there? Also, I'm not sure whether or not I'm keeping my stock wheels, so let's just assume that I will. I need brakes that will fit under stock 16" GS wheels.

aem brake kit is nice...

switching to gsx calipers bigger awd rotors slotted and cross drilled with some aftermarket pads should do ya fine though but if u want the bling bling factor and the extra performance...

I know how you feel. I had lots of brake problems when I first owned my Eclipse. I kept having to take it in for new pads and to have the rotors turned. I think I had the rotors turned twice, then replaced, then turned a couple more times in the first couple years I had the car.

Then I saw the deal with Race Concepts. They sell Brembo blank rotors that they have slotted/dimpled for $90/pair for the front with the discount thru the car club. Do a search for Race Concepts to find the other threads on it.

I ended up getting the front rotors, Metal Master pads for the front, and stainless steel lines for all 4 corners for about $250 including shipping.

If your steering wheel is shaking WHEN YOU ARE BRAKING at 60 mph, just do this. Buy powerslot or other aftermarket rotors (with new pads, of course) for your front brakes ONLY and simply install them yourself.

Trust me, they are EASY to do, there's no reason why everyone doesn't do this on their own. If you can remove a tire and turn a wrench, you can change your rotors and pads.

Stock rotors, well, they flat out suck. They always warp eventually. A good aftermarket rotor shouldn't if you don't drive like a dork or autocross all the time. I've got powerslot rotors and porterfield R4S pads on my car, and they haven't warped, and I've autocrossed on them, they didn't fade either after repeated runs, or at least I didn't notice them fading.

I wouldn't pay the dealership tons of money to put on rotors that will warp again anyway.

1200 is rediculous. 4 brakes at my shop (sears owned) would be less than 600 and that's smurdah. do what VX100 says. it's so rediculously simple. btw if you want to just go with stockers you can get rotors from NAPA for like 20 a peice. that's what i paid last time i did mine. that's why i never have mine machined. it's actually cheaper to replace them.

The problem is, if you get the $20 made in China specials, sure they'll be cheap, but in 8 months or so they'll be worped again.

I'd get the upgraded pads and rotors. If there is one area everyone should modify, it's the brakes, 'cause stopping better is good for everyone

If you are at a really low budget, buy some PowerSolt slotted rotors or PowerStop drileld rotors or Brembo rotors and put on some semi-metallic pads. This is cost below $200 if you shop around. If you are willing to spend above that and below $500, do the Big Brake upgrade utilizing GSX 2-piston calipers, rotors, and pads.
