I've tried and tried, but I can't seem to seperate the axle from the hub assembly. I have a lot of play in the hub area so it looks like I need a new bearing. Anyone know how much they cost or where to get one besides Satan? Thanx.

According to the Chitlons manual, if you put pressure against the axle (the side the wheel nut goes on), it should pop out of the wheel hub. Do the bolts on the other part of the hub hold the axle in? As far as I can tell, the axle/haftshaft needs to seperate from the wheel hub before you can get to those bolts. Has ANYONE done this before? Changed an axle or wheel bearing? I looked at the axle changing writeup on here, but this isn't mentioned. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! I need to get this back on the road now.. I have no car to drive to work tomorrow.

As mentioned, I have this thing in a hydraulic press with at least 200 ft lbs of force against it and it hasn't budged.

you need to buy the hub/bearing assy from a dealer.

trust me, i know, i had to do it last weekend!!!! it sucked, $165! tryed and tryed to get it apart, new bearing from crapto-zone sitting next to it. my friend was like, this bearing looks too big, so i call around, no parts stores have it, i call a dealer, you need to buy the wheel bearing/hub assy as one piece.

sorry man. i know it sucks, (oh, this is for the front i'm assuming) i'm sorry, satan is the only place you can get one

there are 4 bolts holding the assy on the suspention, take those off, get a cold chisel and a hammer, smack the crap out of the back of it till it comes off (will take quite a bit of work). put new shiny one on and presto, good as new. oh yeah, don't pound on the axle, but do take that nut off!!!

oh, take that axle nut off, then the axle will move back enough for you to get to those 4 17mm bolts, take those off and pound the hell out of that hub to get it off. it will eventually come. took half an hour for mine to budge

Well, I finally got it apart and my bearings were in horrible shape (bone dry, no grease, and the plastic part was all cracked up). But I guess athat work was for nothing. Looks like I'm gonna have to drop $165 for the whole new assembly from what you're saying. That sux. I was hopin this would be a relatively inexpensive job. blah.. Thanx for the info tho. I can tell these weren't made to be seperated. The worst part was getting the halfshaft loose from the hub assembly tho. Had to use the press to get it to break loose... and then when it broke loose, I still had to use the press to force the splined shaft the rest of the way out. I'm guessing it's not supposed to be that tight? I mean we're talkin 12-ton of force.. I could barely crank the press anymore before it broke loose.

if it took that much force to get the axle out it might be fucked. look at it, you might need a new axle. mine just slid right out. i'm sorry for breaking the bad news to ya, but better to know the truth right?

We've come across more than one axle here were the hub didn't want to let go of the axle splines... sucks. Ssucks a lot. Heat, rust, etc. all make it a pain, but as long as you got is separated the job isn't difficult from here, except on the pocket book.

i couldn't get my drivers side axel apart from the hub, i ended up crushing the axel nut by hitting it so damn hard so that it would pop of the hub. I ended up buying a new hub assembly and axel because the two were binded together.

wow!!! my axle looked like it was greased/oiled, so it just slid right out! i'm guessing it was that stupid transmission shop that did that, and mashed the end of my axle/stripped the axle nut so much that the nut is stripped and i cant put a new, good castle nut on there... now i have a partially holding, slightly stripped castle nut on my axle with a new beefy cotter pin.
