#16424, "Notes on Deano's Drum to Disc Write-Up (and something for Todd)"

Finished the install of the disc brakes yesterday, replacing front calipers and bleeding the systemn later today.

Some notes on the write-up.

3. I didn't find it neccessary to cut the carpet, you can pull the rearseat and slide the carpet down and out of the side trim panels.

9. In case you forget which way the hub came out: Flat side down rounded side on top.

10. I found it easier to pull the grommet, slide it over the cable, then work the grommet back into the car.

I did this with the whole car supported by jack-stands. I highly recommend this way, with just the rear or only one side up, working space would be limited.

And some info for Todd.
Out of curosity i weighed the discs vs. the drums.
The disc itself weighs a couple pounds less than the drums. 9lbs vs. 11lbs. So the overall weight of the system may be greater with disc brakes, but the rotational mass will be less.

LMAO... I was waiting for you to read this emoji

Oh it was in my bedroom, in my closet, in my garage.... for the better part of 1.5 to 2 years... I had the second set of parts from Deano's junkyard when he was the first one to do it. So yeah it's been a while.

I guess you didn't read my write up, hehe I didn't even change the brakelines, the RS ones work fine, they just don't connect up perfectly but they work, I've done this on 2 cars also.

Hmmm... why don't we have a link to your write up from the main page... Oh Dino! Marcus? Jason? Juan? hehe

I bought the whole thing before you figured out you could modify the parkign brake lines. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my baby. I would have swapped the lines any way emoji

Very good job Mike! emoji

Hmm, good thing you weighed the two. I could argue that since the drum or the disk has a FAR smaller diameter than the rim or the tire, their rotational inertia is not significant compared to the rest of the system, so it is a moote point emoji
