Just wondering if you have to get a new alignment right away or will it not change that much cause adjustments or in different places. Also how to align with 215/40/17 on instead of 14s.

if you are just changing the rear struts it won't affect it much. for the front you should get it aligned as soon as possible

how can I align the car with 17's on instead of the 14's. Do I just put on the 17's and align the wheels telling the alignment comp. that they are 14's or maybe 16's. My 17's have 215/40/17 tires. My 14's have 195/70/14. I know someone must have aligned their bigger rims.

Rim size doesn't matter, they will pay no attention to what size wheels you have.

Just make sure they don't scratch your rims like mine... The only problem the align shop might have is if your car is TOO low to get on the lift or the machine. Other than that, you should be finee!!

so i just use tell the comp that tires are 14's but are 17's really? I do the alignment myselfbut the machine gives differnt numbers for 14's and 16's.

...that's strange... I thought alignment was to align the toe angle and maybe camber if you got the kit... the wheel size and tire size shuoldn't matter...what different reading do you get? camber? or toe?

it's basically asking if your car came stock with 14's or 16's. choose whichever one your car came stock with

edit: I see you have a 96 esi, same as me. Mine came with 14s stock, yours probably did too

Mine came with stock 14's so that is what I tell the comp it is still whereing evan though it isn't? And the differnt readings are just saying that the toe and camber are further of with 16's than 14's. My 14's are still on right now. I want to align it now with 14's for the shocks and later like in april for the 17's. Thanx I got alot of help from u guys.

theres no need to tell them what it came with.....the oem tire size is written on the inside of the door jamb.

well, I think shybuck is talking about telling the computer that is running the alignment machine what size the stock tires were. So unless the computer can open up his door and read the # on the door jamb, then he will have to tell it the number.

I took my car to a school where a friend of mine was studying, and he gave me a free alignment on a machine that asked what year/make/model the car was and what size tires etc...

the reasons why they want the OEM wheel size is just to get the height of the vehicle....They cant do a very accurate measurment without the ride height....Thats what they told me at least when i took mine in a while ago
