Hey all...

THere is some terribly annoying and loud squeaky whine coming from my brakes/wheels I guess...and I already went through all the pads and checked them...they all got at least 3/5 left. So I dunno what to do and was thinking that I might need to do total brake system replacement?

Anyway... I don't need like super stopping power because I'm non-turbo...I don't really race with a non-turbo lol. Something marginally better than stock would be nice. But, being that I know nothing about this stuff, I might be getting into something too big for me.

So...anyone have any ideas on what I should do about my delima?

I am going through the exact same thing!! Check out one of the last posts on my thread and there is a link to a thread on the ASOG board for great prices on new rotors/pads/brake lines.
I think that is what i might do.

If you want new rotors I would recomend www.RaceConcepts.net rotors. They are dimpled (They don't look as silly as that sounds)and slotted. I ordered pads from them as well. The total, shipped, for the front end was $150. Tell them you are with ASOG for the discount.

Yeah, but do you think I need new calipers or something? If so, how much are the dual-piston ones versus the stock?

I've never heard of calipers making noise. The pistons in the calipers move a very miniscule amount.

The noise you are hearing is coming from the pad making contact with the rotor. It is possible that there is something embbeded in the pad making that noise.

So if I get slotted rotors, they are still the same size as my current rotors, right? They can't be bigger?

I probably don't need new anythings...except for new pads maybe. One question...it's like a squeal that goes on at all times while driving..not just when pressing the break, you know?

Mine do the exact same thing, it is the wear indicator rubbing against the rotor indicating new pad time. Mine do it a lot now and it is also because the rotors are warped, so it hits everytime the wheel goes around and sounds awful.
You should check out that Group buy on the ASOG link, those prices are the cheapest I have found anywhere so far for pads, rotors, and SS brake lines.

So even though my pads are not worn down, I'm going to have to replace them cuz of the rotors? So I have to replace everything? How much more would it cost to get calipers?

Listen up!

First of all make sure it is a brake pad hitting on a brake rotor before you buy anything. Maybe it is bearings or something else causing the noise.

If you are saying you are only getting the screech from hell when brakes are applied, then I fully understand.

If you have not had your brake rotors turned, take them off and have autozone or another autoparts store do it. Cost is roughly $8-10 per rotor. Then lightly sand the pads (smooth) and reinstall everything. When you do this, compress the caliper piston slowly, but fully. It may be stuck and putting pressure on the pad which is rubbing the rotor much more than it should be. When you are done doing to this to the fronts or all four(your choice), completely flush you brake fluid with fresh stuff. If it has not been done in the last couple years, you will have lots of water in the system and this could be freezing in your lines causing you to have a caliper piston sticking.

Hell you could even do this first to make sure it is not the problem.

You also need to check that steel pad wear indicator. It could be bent and closer to the rotor than it really should be causing it to rub on the rotor itself, causing a hella noise.

Info: even if you outer pads show 3/5 wear, you inner pad might be hella worn and actually rubbing metal on the inside rotor surface. My inside pads wear much faster than the outside does. When my outside pad is 1/2 worn, my inside has 1/3 left on the pad.

You might just try going to a power sprayer car wash and spraying soapy water like crazy into the calipers and between the pad and rotor itself. It may help flush out a small rock or something that is rubbing on the rotor. Look at the rotor real good inside and outside to see if there are any grooves in it. Should be smooth.

Just some ideas. Do the ones that are cheapest/nearly free first.

Yes kinda. It is the term used for taking metal off the rotor to get it straight(not warped) again. This also makes a fresh surface for the pad to wear on.
