I have been reading the section on lowering and I am confused. I have a 98 Eclipse and want to lower it some....but not radically.
Which is the best way to go? Lowering springs or coil overs? Which is cheaper? How low can I go with out changing camber? How low can I go and still be able to have the "Anal Retentive" garage people still align my car? Would a set of these work well? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6767&item=1876779806 Or something similar to them?
The garages here give my all kinds of hassles about my car...everything from the Reverse Indiglo gages, distracting they say to the driver, hence illegal, (disconnect power at inspection time) to the Altezza's as being "Cosmetic" lighting and illegal (now I take them out for insepction) to the best one...your exhaust is TOO LOUD to pass inspection!
Please, any help you can give me about ride height and feel would be appreciated. I personally would like to go with a set of lowering springs about 1.5"-2.0" Just worried about eating tires with camber problems.

this is a lil long..but should be enough to get you started=)
heres some info that might help you.. i havet his exact stuff done to my ride and i have no problems here in CO.
I personally like the springs over coilovers, but thats a personal choice everyone needs to make, according to the type of ride you want all the way down to the cost of the item.
You can get either springs or coilovers for roughly the same prices.. depending on the brands you go with. You mentioned you wanted no more then a 1.5" or so drop.. most springs drop you 2- 2.5" where as coilovers can be adjusted from 0"-4.0".. however, i have a set of Eibach prokit springs which are a 1.6" drop in both front and rear. I have no problems with a bouncy ride. (it rides like stock which is very nice).. check out http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com ..they have lots of springs/coilovers and they describe prices and lowering amounts.
even the slightest drop will cause a lil camber, now you do have a small camber from factory which gives you better turning capabilities.. but when you lower your car..the tires will start to camber outwards.. I was lucky enough to get sponsored by a local company (SPC - Speciality products company) here for a camber kit. you can also check out their site..http://www.spcperformance.com they are resonably priced and work great. I had my camber kit put on a few days after i lowared my car.. and i have not had one problem since then. as far as alignment, well since they sponsored me they give me free alignments..but most places should align your car if you have that on.
if you have any other ques. u can always pm or email me directly=)

if anything, just ask people to post pics of their rides and ask what type of suspension they have. i have sprint springs with kyb struts.
front rear sides(old pic)
hope that helps. later

I have the same thing and did the rear camber mod with washers from RRE. I get my alignment done tomorrow and Im gonna have them check the front camber even though both sets of tires look fine
